This topic will be posted in every NCAA thread with teams corresponding to that conference. So go vote for your team. It will be interesting to see how large your teams fan base is on TFP. Do not vote unless its your team. That way we can get an accurate depiction of a teams fan base.

Jim Leavitt has been fired as South Florida's football coach, sources close to the coaching staff have told ESPN.com.
Leavitt has been under investigation by the university for allegedly grabbing and striking special teams player Joel Miller at halftime of a November game against Louisville.
The allegations originally were made by Joel Miller's father, Paul, in an online report. Paul Miller has backtracked from original comments that alluded to contact Leavitt allegedly made with his son's neck and face.
Last month, Joel Miller said allegations that he was physically harmed by Leavitt are not true.
"I don't think anything should happen to him," Miller told ESPN's Joe Schad on Dec. 16. "Me and Coach Leavitt are fine. People can say different things but he only grabbed my shoulder pads to motivate me, because he's a passionate guy. He never apologized because he had nothing to apologize for."
South Florida's findings of its investigation into the alleged incident will be released later Friday, AOL Fanhouse reports.
Miller told Schad back then that he plans to remain with South Florida's program.
"It's been real hard especially on my family," Miller said. "But my plan is to stay and play here."
Florida defensive line coach Dan McCarney, former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, who has strong ties in the state of Florida from his tenure on Miami's coaching staff, and Michigan offensive coordinator Calvin Magee are expected to be candidates to replace Leavitt, a source told ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel.

Bearcats tap Jones as Kelly's successorPosted by John Taylor on December 15, 2009 11:02 PM ET
CollegeFootballTalkIn the end, dragging one's feet appears to have paid off for Butch Jones.
Jones, the seemingly now-former Central Michigan head coach who could've had the Marshall job at any point he wanted this month, will be named as the next football coach at Cincinnati, ESPN.com's Joe Schad is reporting.
Schad cited three people briefed on the decision as the basis for his report.
Even before Brian Kelly officially left the Bearcats for Notre Dame, Jones was considered a front runner for the expected vacancy. In recent days, both Jones and East Carolina's Skip Holtz had reportedly been running neck and neck as the coach to fill the UC opening.
In a deliciously ironic twist, Jones replaced Kelly at Central Michigan when the latter bolted for the Queen City.
Now, it appears, Jones will be replacing Kelly at yet another coaching destination. My advice to Irish athletic director Jack Swarbrick? Keep Jones' name on speed dial for three or four years down the road. At the very least, it might save some time on future Googling efforts.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmmm.....so in five years will we see "Butch Jones: New Notre Dame coach; replacing new _________ coach Brian Kelly?"

Well, it's official. Brian Kelly has taken the Notre Dame head coaching job and was named Charlie Weis' successar Friday afternoon. Personally being a University of Cincinnati alumni and a Bearcat fan, I think this move was completely selfish and in all honesty, I'm not exactly sure what Kelly plans to do that Weis couldn't do. But as Bearcat fans and football players said all along, Bearcat football will always be Bearcat football with or without Kelly.
Thoughts?

Strong chance Louisville has tapped new coachPosted by John Taylor on December 8, 2009 5:56 PM ET
CollegeFootballTalkFor the better part of a week, Charlie Strong has been looked upon as far and away the most likely coach to replace Steve Kragthorpe at Louisville.
Based on a notice sent out by the school this afternoon, that likelihood has a very real chance of turning into reality Wednesday afternoon.
From the Louisville Courier-Journal:
The University of Louisville has announced that the Personnel Committee of the U of L Athletic Association Board of Directors will meet to discuss personnel matters at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.Translation? The Florida defensive coordinator will be announced as the Cardinals' new head coach sometime after 3:30 tomorrow afternoon.

Hard being a Uconn player or fan right now I would imagine. Right after losing one of your starters in such a tragic way having back to back almost identical heartbreaking in conference loses. Losing 28-24 last week vs West Virginia with Noel Divine ripping off a big run in the final minutes for the winning score. Almost deja vu vs Rutgers this week. Ironically it was the same final score 28-24 Rutgers and losing in pretty much the same way with Rutgers hitting a 81 yard TD in the final minutes to seal the win. Although i'm a Rutgers fan its hard not to feel sorry for UConn fans. Hope you guys bounce back soon and get that win for Jasper.
R.I.P Jasper Howard

STORRS, Conn. (AP) - A University of Connecticut football player died Sunday following an on-campus stabbing, hours after the team's victory over Louisville.
Twenty-year-old Jasper Howard of Miami, a junior and starting cornerback, was stabbed during a fight early Sunday. A message posted on the university's Web site said the fight and stabbing happened near Hillside Road, which is near the center of the Storrs campus. The perpetrator was still at large.
University president Michael Hogan told The Associated Press that the stabbing is a tragedy for the entire university community. He says state police are working with campus police.
A message with UConn police was not immediately returned.
Howard was credited with 11 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in UConn's 38-25 victory Saturday over Louisville. He led the Big East in punt returns last season.
Wow, such a sad story. Twenty years old...

USF 17 vs No 18 FSU 7http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/gameTrax?gameId=200909260003TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Redshirt freshman B.J. Daniels ran for 126 yards and threw two touchdown passes in his first start Saturday to lead undefeated South Florida to a 17-7 win at No. 18 Florida State in the first meeting between the schools.
Daniels was filling in for senior Matt Grothe, out for the season with a knee injury. A Tallahassee kid not heavily recruited by the Seminoles, the 6-1, 210-pound Daniels totaled 341 yards of offense.
It was the first time since Nebraska's Steve Taylor ran for 139 yards against the Seminoles in 1986 that an opposing quarterback rushed for over 100 yards against them.
Florida State (2-2) lost four fumbles, including a critical one by quarterback Christian Ponder that allowed USF to ice the game.
South Florida (4-0) stuffed Florida State's running game, sacked Ponder five times and continually had Florida State's offensive line on its heels.
The Seminoles couldn't keep the South Florida pass rush, led by defensive ends Jason Pierre-Paul and George Selvie and tackle Craig Marshall, off of Ponder. The Bulls sacked him five times and forced the crucial fumble in the fourth quarter.
Ponder completed 25 of 37 passes for 269 yards, most of it coming on short throws since he didn't have time to go downfield.
South Florida stopped the Seminoles on four plays from the 3-yard line early in the second quarter. USF then needed just five plays to cover 99 yards to get the game's first touchdown.
Daniels hit a wide-open Theo Wilson on a 77-yard pass to the Florida State 8 to set up a TD throw to Ben Busbee on the next play. That put the Bulls up 7-0.
Another huge pass play, this one a 73-yard scoring pass from Daniels to Sterling Griffin, gave USF a 14-0 lead at the half.
The Bulls could have been ahead by more at halftime, but Eric Schwartz missed a pair of 37-yard field goal tries.
It was the first time since the third game of the 2008 season, a 12-3 loss to Wake Forest, that the Seminoles went scoreless in the first half.
FSU totaled over 500 yards of offense and scored 54 points in an easy win at then-No. 7 Brigham Young last week, but managed only 19 yards rushing Saturday. It was a great game for the USF Defense and B.J. Daniels played well despite a pair of interceptions.Go USF Bulls!!!

TAMPA – University of South Florida senior quarterback Matt Grothe will be out for the remainder of the 2009 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee in last night’s game against Charleston Southern.
“Obviously, I am disappointed because you never think this could happen to you,” said Grothe. “It’s a team game and I am still going to be very involved with my teammates and the coaches. I am going to do everything I can to help the Bulls continue to win.”
USF head coach Jim Leavitt reiterated his thoughts from after Saturday night’s game.
“Matt’s a franchise guy and an even better human being,” said Leavitt. “We all know that. What he’s done in college football is extraordinary. He has been one of the greatest names out there. We all know that and our entire program feels bad for him. Matt is a special, special guy.”
Grothe had been the starting quarterback for USF since his redshirt-freshman year in 2006 and had started 41 consecutive games for the Bulls. During that time he became the BIG EAST career leader in total offense with 10,875 yards.
Grothe rushed for 2,206 yards and scored 23 touchdowns over 42 career games. He passed for 8,669 yards and 52 touchdowns, both of which are the second best marks in USF history.
“Injuries are part of the game, but we’re still devastated for Matt,” said USF offensive coordinator Mike Canales. “It’s tough losing a player and leader of Matt’s caliber.”
The Lakeland native accounted for 46.3 percent of the Bulls total offense this season with 121 rushing yards and 512 yards through the air.
The Bulls have two capable backups in redshirt freshmen B.J. Daniels and Evan Landi, and Daniels will step into the starting role, but neither has the experience that Grothe accumulated as the face of the program the last four seasons.
Beyond his statistical accomplishments, Grothe was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year in 2006, an honorable mention freshman All-American in 2006 and the magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl MVP in 2008. He was also named the USF offensive playmaker of the year by his coaches and teammates in 2007 and 2008.
When I saw the hit I thought he was done. Sad day, considering all Grothe has done for the program, but thankfully we have a more-than-competent backup in B.J. Daniels. It's your team now, B.J.

Syracuse is going all in on the Greg Paulus experiment.
Orange head coach Doug Marrone officially named the former Duke basketball player as his starting quarterback on Monday night, even though Paulus has not played football in four years and has never played a collegiate snap.
Paulus, a high school football star who played point guard for the Blue Devils for four years, transferred to Syracuse as a graduate student this spring. Despite having just a week of official practice under his belt, Paulus beat out sophomore Ryan Nassib -- who was named the No. 1 quarterback in the spring -- and senior Cam Dantley, who was last year's starter. His first college football game will be Sept. 5 against Minnesota in the Carrier Dome.

Bennett ESPN.com's Brian Bennett writes about all things Big East in his conference blog.

College Football Nation
The news that Paulus had won the job was sent out in an official news release late Monday night. Earlier this month, Marrone talked glowingly about how Paulus could handle such an unprecedented transition.
"He has instincts that are hard to teach," Marrone said. "He knows how to look people off, how to take control of the game and how to change plays.
"If you had ever met Greg Paulus, you'd understand and I wouldn't get a lot of the questions that I get," Marrone said. "If something can be accomplished, he can do it."

Big East looking to raid the ACC?Posted by John Taylor on August 5, 2009 3:56 PM
http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2...o-raid-the-acc/Back in 2005, Boston College bolted the Big East for the friendly confines of the ACC.
Four years later, could they be thinking of performing an about face and moving back to the league they jilted?
That, according to the New York Post, is the rumor du jour as the paper is reporting that two sources confirmed the Big East is looking into adding a ninth team.
One of the teams of interest to the league, the sources said, is Boston College. The other? Maryland.
BC officials, however, are denying The New York Post report.
"This is the first I've heard about this," Boston College Athletic Director Gene DeFillippo told the Washington Post. "Nobody from the Big East contacted us. We are in the conference we want to be in, and we're going to be in the Atlantic Coast Conference forever."
The Washington Post also spoke to Maryland Athletic Director Debbie Yow, who stated via email that the New York Post story is "not a credible rumor".

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A University of South Florida football player is recovering at a hospital after falling 35 feet from a ride while working at Busch Gardens in Tampa.
Team officials say 20-year-old Maikon Bonani was working at the Skyride attraction when he fell Saturday. The park did not immediately identify the employee or release his condition.
The park issued a statement saying that after sending a gondola out of the station, the employee thought the door might be unlocked and held onto the door to check it. He hung on as the gondola took off - authorities say - then let go about 35 feet above the ground into a landscaped area.
Bonani was listed in fair condition at a hospital. Busch Gardens said no one else was injured.
Bonani was USF's starting kicker.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Dion Lewis is proving that a running back doesn't need to be 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds to make a big impression, even during his first few weeks in a major college program.
Lewis, who graduated from high school only 3 1/2 months ago, may be pulling away in the race to succeed LeSean McCoy as the starting running back in Pitt's offense. McCoy surpassed many of Tony Dorsett's freshman and sophomore statistics at Pitt, but left school after two seasons to enter the NFL draft.
Coach Dave Wannstedt's biggest challenge this spring was sorting out how to replace all those yards McCoy produced - 1,488 yards rushing last season alone (he had 1,328 yards as a freshman). Nobody at Pitt is yet comparing Lewis to McCoy, but first impressions are favorable.
He gained notice from the defensive backs who found themselves chasing Lewis as he ran up the middle for 19 yards on a touchdown run during a scrimmage last week, when Lewis simply outran the defenders on a second-and-9. He also had an impressive 10-yard run to the 1 that led to a touchdown.
Those were the kind of plays McCoy made frequently as Pitt went 9-4 last season, and seeing similar flashes from Lewis so early in his career is encouraging to Wannstedt.
"Dion Lewis is in the mix for 30 carries (a game during the season), in my mind," Wannstedt said. "Dion, he's come in here and probably had as good a grasp of what we're doing as any of the backs. And he's done it in a short period of time."
Short isn't exactly Lewis' favorite word - at 5-foot-7 1/2, he usually is the smallest player on the field. He makes up for his lack of height with excellent acceleration, the kind that enabled him to average 14.1 yards per carry during his final season at Blair Academy in New Jersey last fall.
Redshirt freshman Chris Burns, a former western Pennsylvania high school star who was impressive during summer camp last year, and redshirt sophomore Shariff Harris are Lewis' primary competitors at running back. Harris also is getting some carries at fullback.
-- cbssports.com
He sure does sound impressive. I don't see him being another McCoy because of his size but if he gets to the outside fast enough, he'll burn the defense. I'll look forward to seeing him play, although I hope Pitt loses every game of the season.

This is a conference that has seen better days. It will be competitive, if nothing else:
We will give the edge to Rutgers here. In order for Rutgers to have success, they must develop a running game, becuase they lose their great QB-WR combo. Fortunately, the OL comes back intact. The defense appears to be solid, especially on the corners of the DL and at LB. The most attractive thing about Rutgers is the schedule. They get Cincy, Pitt, USF and West Virginia all at home. That may be enough to get them to the top of an interesting, if not extremely talented conference.
West Virginia certainly would suprise no one if they came out on top. Jarrett Brown should be a decent replacement for Pat White at QB, though no one can really replace him. Devine leads a good group of RB's and the WR spot is set. The OL is the big problem here. On defense, they are solid at LB and should be good up front. The schedule is not the easiest one, going to USF, Cincy and Rutgers.
Pitt. What to do about this team. Perhaps the biggest unerachievers in the Big East. QB Stull returns, but Pitt is going to have to find some semblence of a passing attack to balance their offense. The OL is good. The defense figueres to be the mainstay on the team again. The DL is solid, and while the LB corp took a hit with graduation, the secondary will be better. For Pit to get over the top, they are going to have to open up their offense.
Cincinnati. Last years suprise winners have a solid offense returining, led by QB Pike and WR Gilyard. The RB's have breakaway speed, and the OL seems to be pretty solid. Defense is another story. The hope is that some players who saw extensive action last year can pick up the slack. The only starter returning is FS Webster. Also missing is the ability to sneak up on people, as they did last year. Opening at Rutgers and going to Oregon State two weeks later is the making of a 1-2 start. Cincy is a "maybe" at best.
USF. Another underachieveing team. Last year the offense went flat, and while QB Grothe returns, few others do. They lack experience and depth at RB and on the OL. On defense, DE Selvie leads an experienced DL, but help is needed in the back 7. Three soft non-con games (2 against FCS teams) help start the season, but then a trip to Florida State and reality set in. This team needs more to contend.
UConn. The Huskies go to a hurry up offense, minus an excellent QB and RB. A tough way to start a new offense, but the WR's and OL is in pretty good shape. The defense is solid at LB and the secondary, but needs help up front. The Non-con schedule is a killer, playing UNC at home and going to Baylor and Notre Dame. This is not the year for UConn, but things will be different next year.
Louisville. The Cards offense, solid at RB and Wr, is hampered by the fact that no one has a clue as to who may be the starting QB at this late date. Never good. The defense, which gave up nearly 30 points/game last year, returns 7, but is very thin in the secondary. Playing at Kentucky and Utah in games 2 and 3 is not the way to start the season. This team has to gell to get anywheres.
Syracuse. The offense shoud inprove with RB Carter healthy and WR Williams returning. Also returning is QB Dantley, and an OLthat has some experience. The defense returns enough starters to improve over last year. Syracuse will improve, but when you lose games by as many points as they did, it takes a lot of improvment just to get to .500, and Syracuse is not there yet.

Interesting choice, I think they should have went after Turner Gill
Syracuse has hired New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Marrone as its next head coach, Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting.
According to Schefter, Marrone accepted the job today from Chicago, where he’s with the Saints to play the Bears tonight. Marrone is expected to stay with the Saints through the season before he begins the Syracuse job.
Marrone has never been a head coach at any level. He has worked as a college assistant coach at Cortland College, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Northeastern, Georgia Tech, Georgia and Tennessee. In addition to his three years on the staff of the Saints, he was a New York Jets assistant from 2002 to 2005.
As a layer, Marrone was a Syracuse offensive lineman from 1983 to 1985 and played briefly in the NFL, with the Miami Dolphins in 1987 and the Saints in 1989, as well as the London Monarchs of the World League of American Football in 1991.

TAMPA -- After two weeks of searching, USF coach Jim Leavitt has a new right-hand man on defense: Former Cincinnati defensive coordinator Joe Tresey, who has confounded USF the past two seasons, has accepted an offer to join the Bulls as a defensive coordinator.
Tresey, 50, came to Tampa on Tuesday for a second interview with Leavitt and accepted an offer to join the Bulls, replacing Wally Burnham, who resigned two weeks ago to take the same job at Iowa State. Tresey's defenses have helped Central Michigan and Cincinnati to conference championships in the past three years, with a reputation for forcing turnovers and piling up sacks.
It's still unclear whether Tresey will coach USF's linebackers or defensive backs, and Leavitt still could assign some kind of coordinator role to another defensive assistant, still to be hired. Tresey was strongly considered for Miami's defensive coordinator job last month, and gives the Bulls a defensive mind with ample knowledge of the rest of the conference.
"He's a very good coach who helped us win the Big East," former Cincinnati cornerback Mike Mickens, a two-time first-team All-Big East selection while under Tresey, said Tuesday night. "He's a player's coach, someone who relates to his players real well. His focus is on forcing a lot of turnovers and making plays on the ball."
Tresey was fired last month by Bearcats coach Brian Kelly, who said he had philosophical differences and was shifting to a 3-4 defense, but the move could have also been prompted by Tresey's talks with Miami.
Cincinnati tied USF for the national lead in takeaways in 2007, forcing 42, and led the nation with 26 interceptions that same year. The Bearcats ranked 25th nationally in scoring defense and 31st nationally in total defense last season. Some of Tresey's best games have come against the Bulls -- USF quarterback Matt Grothe has thrown one touchdown and seven interceptions in two games against his Cincinnati teams.
Tresey, a 1982 Ohio State graduate, spent 10 years as a high school coach at Ohio and seven years at Otterbein College and Virginia Military. He has worked as a coordinator since 2002, with stops at Akron, Georgia Southern, Central Michigan and Cincinnati.
"He's a fantastic coach. Well-prepared, well-organized, and did a good job in recruiting as well," said Mike Sewak, his head coach at Georgia Southern and now an assistant at Georgia Tech. "He puts his players in position to make plays. He got a bunch of sacks and a lot of turnovers by putting a lot of pressure on the quarterback."
Leavitt met with Tresey just days after Burnham resigned last month, but has since interviewed a parade of candidates for his defensive openings. At least four -- Illinois co-defensive coordinator Dan Disch, Colorado secondary coach Greg Brown, Georgia linebackers coach Jon Jancek and Iowa State secondary coach Chris Ash -- said they had turned down offers to join Leavitt's staff.
Leavitt and Tresey could not be reached for comment late Tuesday night. Tresey will have to hit the ground running, as USF opens a month of spring practice on Monday afternoon. USF's spring game is set for April 11 at Raymond James Stadium.
Quite humorous. We beat Cincy in bball tonight and hire their defensive coordinator.
USF owns Cincinnati.

Thursday morning the Bulls coaching staff found out that they landed the top JUCO defensive line prospect on the board when 5-star JUCO All-American DE Jason-Pierre-Paul of Fort Scott Community College gave a verbal commitment to play for USF.
“Jason committed to USF†said Fort Scott CC Head Coach Jeff Sims. “He told me several hours ago, and will sign with the Bulls.â€
Originally from Deerfield Beach, Pierre Paul first went to College of the Canyons and had an All-American season as a freshman before transferring to Fort Scott. Pierre Paul received interest from nearly every school in the country including but narrowed done his choices to the schools he visited, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Kansas State, and USF, but it was his desire to move back to the sunshine state that gave the Bulls the edge.
“His main reason for choosing the Bulls was he wanted to move back closer to home,†Said Sims. “He really wanted to get back to Florida.â€
Pierre-Paul finished the 2008 season at Fort Scott with 58 tackles, 15 for loss, 10 sacks and one interception, and was named a second team All-American and a first team all-Jayhawk Conference. As a freshman at Canyons, Pierre-Paul amassed 49 tackles, 14 sacks, an amazing 19 tackles-for-loss, one interception, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery and he's off to a great start already for the Greyhounds.
“Jason is a tremendous player,†said Jeff Sims. “He’s as good as they come.â€
Jason Pierre-Paul joins his Fort Scott teammate All-American LB Jaquian Williams, LB 6-foot-4 230 pounds. Pierre-Paul and Williams took their official visit together to USF on the 12th, and will now be teammates once again at South Florida.
“I’m sure there will be a transition period, but once he gets settled in, he’ll be a great player.â€
Jason Pierre Paul is a 3 for 2 guy and is on pace to finish up this may, and will join the Bulls directly after.
Wow, this is easily the best class USF has ever had in football.

TAMPA -- The final NCAA stats are out and the USF defense was among the nation’s best once again. The Bulls ranked No. 10 nationally in total defense (287.6 yards per game) and run defense (95.2). The Bulls are also ranked No. 24 in scoring defense (20.0). The USF offense finished the 2008 campaign ranked No. 32 in total offense (405.0).
USF has ranked in the top 30 in total defense six of the last seven season, all under the watch of defensive coordinator and assistant head coach Wally Burnham. It is the highest final ranking USF has ever achieved in total defense and second in run defense to the 2002 squad that finished seventh.
USF was the highest rated BIG EAST team in run defense and second to UConn in total defense.
Below are the final rankings for USF in total defense since 2002:
2002 – 17
2003 - 17
2004 - 77
2005 – 17
2006 – 25
2007 – 28
2008 - 10
The NCAA Stats are in and the South Florida Bulls have the #10 Ranked Defense in the nation in 2008. We also had the #32 Ranked Offense in the nation. Not bad for a program still in it's infancy.
The Bulls are also ranked #24 in the Early Preseason rankngs of Scout.com.
The future of the USF Bulls program looks rosey to say the least. Go BULLS!!!!

I think both are better college players than they will be pro players so good to come back and see if they can improve their stock.
Boston college junior linebacker mark herzlich said thursday he will return for his senior season and hopes defensive coordinator frank spaziani is promoted to head coach."i hope coach spaziani gets the job," herzlich said. "because he'd be great to play for. But this will be my second coaching change and i know all coaches want to win."
"i want to finish college, be with my teammates and improve my draft stock," herzlich said. "there's too much upside not to come back."
Virginia tech junior defensive back kam chancellor said thursday that, after considering a jump to the nfl, he has told his coaches he will definitely return for a senior season.chancellor, a 6-foot-4, 224-pound safety, had 52 tackles and two interceptions this season for the fedex orange bowl champion hokies.
"i just thought about how good of a team we have and how i have a good feeling that we could go to the national championship next year," chancellor said. "and i thought about how i could better my situation for the draft next year."

Huge get: DE Giddins picks Bulls over Gators
Two days after Florida won a national championship, USF has pulled a major recruiting coup, beating out the Gators and getting an oral commitment from Armwood defensive end Ryne Giddins.
"Why not?" Giddins told the Times' Keith Niebuhr on Saturday night after committing during an official visit to USF. "I felt more comfortable at USF. I felt the love."
Giddins, 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, said he enjoyed a recent visit to Florida, but felt more at home with the Bulls. The two-time Times Defensive Player of the Year is rated a four-star recruit by both major recruiting services and is ranked by Rivals.com as the nation's No. 2 pass-rushing defensive end and the No. 61 overall recruit in the nation.
He joins a defensive line that returns three starters. He'll compete for the starting role opposite All-American George Selvie.
-- Greg Auman and Keith Niebuhr, Times staff writers
You know you've arrived when you beat out UF for a recruit in the state of Florida. Love it, this guy is going to be a beast with Selvie.

Interesting, considering he waited for Brohm and Cantwell to leave....
Quarterback Matt Simms is leaving the University of Louisville football program. Simms, a redshirt sophomore quarterback, informed U of L coach Steve Kragthorpe of his decision this morning, U of L football sports information director Rocco Gasparro said.
No official word on where Simms is headed, although it will probably be a junior college. His mother arrived from New Jersey to help him pack his belongings and head home today. Simms had returned to Louisville after the holidays for nearly a week. He worked out with teammates at the Trager Center for several days before making his decision to leave.
Some expected Simms to replace Hunter Cantwell as the Cards' starting quarterback next season. After red-shirting last season, Simms played in only one game last season, completing 4 of 10 passes for 39 yards and one interception against Pittsburgh.
Simms is from Franklin, N.J., and is the son of Phil Simms, the Louisville native who quarterbacked the New York Giants to a pair of Super Bowls. Phil Simms int he lead analyst for the NFL for CBS Sports.

CINCINNATI (AP) - Coach Brian Kelly tried to end speculation Tuesday that he's leaving No. 13 Cincinnati, saying that he's happy with the football program's development and he plans to stay.
He was upbeat Tuesday following a meeting with the school's president, AD and the head of its board of trustees to get an update on plans to expand the Bearcats' small football stadium and to improve their practice fields.
Kelly acknowledged that other schools had expressed an interest in him, but said he's not interested in leaving.
"All I can say is that with all the speculation and all the jobs that have been out there, sooner or later 'no' means 'no,"' Kelly said. "Again, no one can ever speak in terms of forever and ever, but what I can tell you is there's been a lot of interest in my services, and I want to be here at the University of Cincinnati because of the right reasons."
The Bearcats (10-2) won the Big East title this season, sending them to the first BCS bowl in school history. A win Saturday at Hawaii would set a school record for victories in a season.
Kelly has been mentioned for other coaching jobs since late last season, when he revived Cincinnati's moribund program. He led the Bearcats to 10 wins, matching the school record, and a No. 17 final ranking that was their highest for the end of a season.
Despite losing his two experienced quarterbacks to injuries, Kelly led the Bearcats to another breakthrough season this year. Their current No. 13 ranking matches their best ever — they also made it that high in 1954.
Recently, Kelly's name has been mentioned for numerous openings, including those at Tennessee and Washington. Tennessee filled its job by hiring Lane Kiffin on Monday.
With its basketball program still trying to recover from the fallout of coach Bob Huggins' ouster, the university has made it a priority to keep Kelly, who set a Big East title as his goal when he arrived on Dec. 4, 2006, and was able to deliver one within two years.
Using the core of a team recruited by Mark Dantonio, who is now at Michigan State, Kelly has taken the program to new heights in each of his two seasons.
He got a new contract after his first year, paying him a guaranteed $1.2 million this season. Bonuses for winning the Big East, boosting attendance and other accomplishments will push his total pay this season to around $1.5 million. His deal runs through 2012.
The Bearcats play and practice at on-campus Nippert Stadium, which holds 35,000 — by far the conference's smallest — and lacks modern amenities such as luxury boxes. When his contract was renegotiated a year ago, Kelly made upgrading the facilities one of the deal's terms.
The school is obligated to build a covered practice field — the Cincinnati Bengals don't have one of those — by next December. If it fails to do so, Kelly's contract buyout is reduced by half.
"As you know, I have some contractual stipulations relative to those facilities," Kelly said. "Right now, we feel pretty good that we're on schedule for it."
Mike Thomas, the school's athletic director, also told Kelly on Tuesday that the school also will raise money to upgrade Nippert Stadium. Architects are looking into options for renovation and expansion. There is no estimate yet about how many fans it will seat, how much the project will cost or when it will be completed.
"Coach Kelly and the success he's had here has really put things on the fast track for us," Thomas said. "The things that are important to Brian are absolutely important to me, things that were really on the agenda before Brian Kelly arrived here. But success breeds these kinds of opportunities."

West Virginia and USF were the top two contenders to win the Big East.
USF has been out of the hunt for a while, and today WVU lost to Pitt....resulting in WVU losing their chance to take the Big East.
(I know that WVU knocked themselves out by poor tackling..and not being sharp on the offense, throughout the season.
I have no clue what happened with USF.)
So with that being said, can anyone really say they thought Cincinnati was going to be in the top spot this season?
