With the Arena Football League folding as of August 5th, 2009, we have removed the AFL discussion forum in favor of the United Football League forum.
If you don't already know, the UFL is a professional football league beginning October 8th.
For more information on the league, check out their wikipedia article.

Just curious, forum is dead, I'm bored. I haven't seen it on ESPN, I rarely watch tv though. I have only seen a bit of a game at a bar. Needless to say what I think.
So, do you care about the UFL? Should we? If you think so, convince us.

Eli loses his position coach
Posted by Evan Silva on January 29, 2010 1:44 PM ET
Giants quarterbacks coach Chris Palmer, formerly the head coach in Cleveland and offensive coordinator in Houston, announced Friday that he is leaving the team.
"I had a great run with the Giants," Palmer said in a team-released statement. "I want to thank the Maras and the Tisches for three great years. It was a very, very good situation for me."
With Palmer as his position coach, Giants QB Eli Manning set career highs in completion rate (62.3), touchdown-to-interception ratio (27:14), and passing yards (4,021) in 2009.
Palmer, 60, also spent time with the Jaguars and Cowboys. He was instrumental in Tony Romo's development as well. The Giants aren't known to be pursuing a replacement at this time.
UPDATE: Palmer is not retiring. MSG.com has learned that he will become the next head coach of the UFL's New York franchise. The Sentinels fired 2009 coach Ted Cottrell and reportedly plan to relocate to Hartford.

UFL loses $30 million in opening yearPosted by Mike Florio on November 30, 2009 7:10 PM ET
ProFootballTalkWith a scaled-down schedule in a four-team league, the upstart UFL still managed to lose a whopping $30 million in its first year of operation, according to Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal.
That's roughly $2.3 million per game for each of the 13 games played this year by the UFL.
At that rate, the NFL would lose more than $763 million in one season, based on 332 total games played (256 regular-season, 64 preseason games, the Hall of Fame game, 10 postseason games, and the Super Bowl).
The bulk of the losses came from average attendance of less than 10,000 per game, far below a projected average of 20,000 per game.
"I gotta tell you, I never bought into 20,000 a game," UFL COO Frank Vuono told Kaplan. "I am telling you that point blank."
The title game, hosted by the Las Vegas Locomotives at Sam Boyd Stadium, drew fewer than 15,000 fans.
Commissioner Michael Huyghue shrugged off the losses.
"We were prepared for that," Huyghue told the Las Vegas Review-Journal, via SportsBusiness Daily. "The plan is through better marketing, higher attendance, more corporate sponsors and improved television ratings that we'll cut our losses in half next year and hopefully break even in Year Three."
-------------------------------------------------------------
Two things-- I never saw anything that ever came close to 10,000 people at any game. Maybe 1,000. And by year three? That's out of this world optimism if they think this league will be around in three years.

OK....wow. Where do I even begin? Someone kill this league before it goes any further. Flipping though channels I came across HDNet and saw some team in neon blue playing some team in neon green. In front of about 500 people. I wasn't sure it was real football at first. Then, seeing the neon green, thought maybe the Seahawks were having an inter-squad scrimmage. Then it dawned on me......this was the mighty UFL.
- The stadium (in Orlando so I can only assume it was the Citrus Bowl. If not, I don't give a **** anyways) was literally.....80% empty. You could have put all those people in a high school gym. There were more people on the field than in the stands. Guaranteed.
- Who designed these ****ing uniforms? Oh my god. Did they go to the color wheel and find the four brightest hues they could find and slap them on a jersey with black? Gotta love the lime green colored yard markers and chain gang.
- And the football was just putrid. The UFL wouldn't even be a mid-major in college football. I'll put the Mountain West up against the entire league and win going away. I laughed my ass off when I saw
Simeon Rice sack Brooks Bollinger. Then have Paul McGuire wonder aloud why such a monster like Rice wasn't playing in the NFL.
- Excellent idea to start a junior varsity football league in the fall. Not like people we're involved in other fall activities.....like, say, NASCAR, college football, baseball postseason, NHL, NBA, raking leaves, folding socks.....
After tuning in an out for one quarter I wanted to blow my brains out and anybody who watches this ****ing garbage.....all 15 of you......you ought to have your Fan Card revoked for life.

Thursday, 8th of October, the UFL kicks off.
Will anyone be following this football league of four teams?
Post your comments here if you like what you saw on the UFL's inaugural gameday.
The games are;
California Redwoods vs. Las Vegas Locomotives
Florida Tuskers vs. New York Sentinels
My opinion; none of these 'pro' teams would beat, say, Boise State.
Plus three of the team names (Redwoods / Tuskers / Locomotives) are weak and generally uninspiring, which may make fans apathetic.
I don't hold out much hope for the UFL, but maybe, against all odds, it will succeed in its first season if judged by its own standards.

QUOTE
We have long argued that the United Football League is the best thing to happen to players, coaches, and agents in a long, long time. After all it gives them a second chance, a chance to play professional football, or gives the NFL pause when it comes time to consider suspending them. We particularly believed the National Football League Players Association would think so. Now we have proof:
The NFL Players Association is looking for ways to help out the fledgling United Football League — and some of its own current players in the process.
In an e-mail sent this morning by the NFLPA, contract advisers were alerted to be mindful of employment opportunities that could come quickly from the UFL, which is in the process of getting ramped up for the beginning of its season in October. Advisers are instructed to contact Rick Mueller, the former New Orleans and Jacksonville front office man who’s serving as the GM for the four UFL teams, overseeing scouting and player acquisitions. The timing is ideal because training camps for the four franchises are scheduled to open Sept. 12.
It’s a good idea for the NFLPA to spread the news about the new league and doors that could be opening for guys who would otherwise be out on the street looking for jobs. The NFL mandates a cutdown to 75 players in six days, and the final cut to 53 is on Sept. 5. That means as many as 864 football players are going to be getting pink slipped before the 32 NFL teams form eight-man practice squads, which will create opportunities for less than one-third of them.
Source: The National Football Post
We will see 220 players travel to Casa Grande and Orlando on September 14. Chances are that a large percentage of them will come from the 864 players about to be cut from the NFL. And as Bill Walsh once said… their ain’t a whole lot of difference between the last 20 cut and the 20 who make the team.

Well, [blank]FL's almost always come onto the scene promising us some offseason football. Fail to deliver the excitement the NFL does and fade away out of our memories forever. The lone exception of course is the AFC. Which was great for the sport.
My question to you is how many years do you see this UFL lasting?
Personally my vote would be less than 5. Probably the 2-4 year period. Although I wouldn't be surprised if it only lasted the one season.
Also, what do you think about the UFL?
I am looking forward to some offseason football. I haven't studied up too much on it. But hopefully it has that same magic that keeps us all glued to the screen when the CFL is on and kick returners routinely don't catch the ball. Seriously though, I wish it the best. I just don't have high expectations as of yet.

Free agent DE Simeon Rice has signed on with the UFL's New York Sentinels.
Rice insists he can still be an impact player at the highest level, but he received no interest on the open market this past offseason. He could land a job as a situational pass rusher if he shines in the UFL.

Thurman, Pittman heading to UFLPosted by Mike Florio on August 13, 2009 4:20 PM ETWith their NFL futures in doubt, a couple of former NFL players have landed in the UFL.
Nation Hahn of
UFL Access tell us that former Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman and Cardinals, Bucs, and Broncos running back Michael Pittman are heading to the Florida Tuskers of the new pro football league that will debut in October.
They'll join former NFL receiver Koren Robinson as members of the team coached by former Saints and Rams coach Jim Haslett.
I am pretty surprised Pitt couldn't make a NFL roster. I always liked the guy in Tampa and I wish him luck in the UFL. The dude is jacked.
