Toggle shoutbox The Mad Box

BenJarvus Gr...  : (20 May 2013 - 07:33 PM) Alex is a fan of the Rainbow Warriors
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:33 PM) The fact that they didn't build their d-line around his scheme is the problem.
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 07:33 PM) The wide 9 wasn't working and he couldn't adapt. Versatility -100 points
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:33 PM) yeah the "Wide 9" which will allow Ansah to clean up with a straight path to the QB!
Conshy  : (20 May 2013 - 07:33 PM) in this shoutbox: all teams are the same. all players are the same. all defense is the same.
Conshy  : (20 May 2013 - 07:34 PM) great logic, McNair
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:34 PM) They can't double team Fairley and Suh both!
Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 07:34 PM) The Lions aren't much better. They have a beast Dline, everything behind them sucks ass. LMAO
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 07:34 PM) We tied for 1st in the league in sacks the year before. The talent was already there. he just failed at utilizing it
Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 07:34 PM) Aren't much better in regards to what Washburn brings, that is
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:35 PM) Bill Bently, Chris Houston, Darius Slay, Glover quin and Louis Delmas would have to disagree!
Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 07:36 PM) It's pretty crazy how dogshit Schwartz' defenses have been
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 07:36 PM) Who? lol
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 07:36 PM) Quin is okay and Delmas is probably a bit better than okay but stays injured
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:36 PM) Washburn was the reason for the Titans defensive success for so many years
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:37 PM) He was just the D-Line coach not the coordinator dutchff7.
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:37 PM) He made Schwartz look good in 07 and 08..there's a reason Titans fans wanted to be rid of Schwartz even after those years
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:37 PM) J. Castillo failed.
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 07:37 PM) I know this. Defenses start up front though
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:37 PM) As he'll do again.
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:37 PM) Fisher always tried to get him to take the DC position when it opened up, he never accepted.
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:38 PM) Fairley and Suh got this!
Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 07:38 PM) I am pretty shocked Schwartz is still a head coach.. but I guess he did take the Lions to the playoffs, which is outstanding on its own
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 07:38 PM) Our sack drought ended IMMEDIATELY after washburn was fired.
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 07:38 PM) Juan Castillo is an O-line coach for the Ravens now
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:39 PM) J. Jones will be the difference maker for him as him and Washburn were together in TEN too and he's (Jones) has the longest arms at the position too I might add!
Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 07:39 PM) Lions are settling for not sucking because they are so used to sucking. Not a good strategy, but I suppose it wouldn't be so bad after being so bad for so long
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:39 PM) I refuse to believe that with all the bullshit that went on in Philly, Washburn was the reason for their problems, lmao
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:40 PM) Merely a coincidence and it fell again after Babin left too!
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:40 PM) Not after what he accomplished here
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:40 PM) AirMcNair gets it
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:40 PM) Washburn's brilliance got Schwartz a head coaching job. Helped get Gregg Williams one too
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:40 PM) I think Williams was a much better coordinator than Schwartz, but meh
Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 07:41 PM) I admit I over exaggerated on Washburn, he wasn't the cause of the problems but he did contribute. As you said, he is only as good as the guys around him.. And he only knows one thing. So he most certainly didn't help the situation at all either
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:41 PM) The Eagles did not have any chemistry in their defensive backfield since trying to overload it a couple seasons back.
Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 07:42 PM) The Lions are equally untalented though, so... I dunno what the heck is going to happen with them
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:43 PM) Washburn's job is dealing with the defensive line. He doesn't call plays for the rest of the defense, doesn't teach the rest of the defense either. His defensive lines here were dominant enough where the rest of our D could be average, or even at times bad
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:44 PM) Yeah it will be interesting to see because the Lions have a lot to prove this season and unproven guys to do it so I hope they sign a free agent vet like Woodson to lead the inexperienced corners.
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:44 PM) He shouldn't need to teach more than "one thing" when that "one thing" was arguably the most successful in the NFL for like a 13 year period
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 07:44 PM) Not being able to get pressure on the QB giving them all day to throw doesn't go well for your secondary
Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 07:45 PM) That's where I would have to disagree. If you are only good for one style, your worth is always fluctuating
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 07:45 PM) All I know is immediately after Washburn left, we start getting sacks. I believe in cause and effect :yep:
Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 07:45 PM) If you aren't capable of change, your job is volatile. He deserved to be fired, make no doubt about that.
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 07:46 PM) The game of football is always changing; a revolutionary sport. being a one trick pony won't last forever. Coaches adapt to certain schemes and learn how to counter. Versatility is the key
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:46 PM) The NFL is a league of people adapting. Over his entire career here, no one was ever able to adapt and stop his style of coaching, not on a consistent basis. We had a couple of down years, but that was due to a salary cap fuck up and our entire team being shit, not just one aspect
Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 07:46 PM) It's part of why I would like to see Dom fired. he did a nice job changing us to a 34 but its the SAME THING over and over. He refuses to make adjustments and he is stubborn as hell, the result is a shit defense. We'll see what happens this year though.
LionsFan317  : (20 May 2013 - 07:47 PM) I like the "Wide 9 scheme personaly and think with the right personnel could be dominant in the black and blue division (NFC North) as it's a pass happy division with the exception of the Vikings.
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:48 PM)

Quote

Washburn was hired by the Tennessee Titans as their defensive line coach in 1999. During his 12-year tenure with the Titans, the team ranked seventh in sacks with 474 and fifth in run defense thanks to Washburn's defensive line.
That includes a 3 year stretch of the entire team being dog dick
.AirMcNair.  : (20 May 2013 - 07:48 PM) 04, 05 and 06
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 07:49 PM) I know that Division game against the 49ers had to be frustrating. Capers continued to dial up man coverages while Kaepernick ran all over u guys
