badgers 380 Posted September 2, 2011 Agent Drew Rosenhaus has formally submitted a trade request on behalf of Bears WLB Lance Briggs. Briggs has three years left on a six-year deal he signed as an unrestricted free agent in 2008. In other words, the Bears have all the leverage here. Briggs says he is going to keep playing despite the trade demand and the Bears would never get equal value for the six-time Pro Bowler on the open market. Obviously, they won't trade him. But do the Bears like pissing off their players or something? Shouldn't you be paying a six-time Pro Bowler more than what he's getting? Shit like this is what makes players NOT want to play for your team.
DonovanMcnabb for H.O.F 2,241 Posted September 2, 2011 Briggs isn't the one requesting a trade, his agent is. This might be a case of where the player wants something, and the agent tells the player to let the agent do there thing to get them that money, and the player agrees to it knowing it should work. Briggs has been the most consistent Bear for a while now, having a couple mill added to his contract, especially when they have the space is a smart move by the Bears imo. Yeah Briggs wants more money and he should get it.
Packers Dynasty 2010 116 Posted September 2, 2011 The Bears have plenty of cap space, why not extend the contracts of your best players? Forte needs a contract extension for more money, while Briggs could use a couple extra mill added to his contract.
WindyCitySports 407 Posted September 3, 2011 I am convinced that the Bears are the cheapest team in all of sports. Here they are with extra money, and one of their best (if not THE best) requests a little more money, and no. We don't give it to him. Kreutz asked for another $500k and they didn't give it to him, despite the fact that Olin took a pay cut in 2002 so that he could stay with the team. Now they're pulling the same crap with a guy we need more than Kruetz. Come on, Bears!
BLUE 1,026 Posted September 6, 2011 Per Rotoworld.com: GM Jerry Angelo said the Bears will not be trading WLB Lance Briggs or giving him a contract extension until after the season.Briggs formally submitted a trade request last week, but it's falling on deaf ears. He has three years left on his contract and no leverage in the matter. "What he's doing is not something that hasn't been done here in Chicago and around the league," Angelo said. Meanwhile, Briggs says nothing has changed for him on the field as he continues preparations for Sunday's opener against the Falcons.
