Update: Dolphins axe Tony Sparano after four seasons

Recommended Posts

Per Rotoworld.com:

The Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins will replace head coach Tony Sparano after the season, but retain GM Jeff Ireland.

"I know this as fact. Period," writes columnist Armando Salguero. Early Sunday, the Herald reported that Sparano would be in "grave danger" of losing his job even if the Dolphins won their final four games. They lost 26-10 to the Eagles today. Per Salguero, Ireland will stay "barring some unexpected circumstance," because Dolphins owner Stephen Ross believes talent composition has been a strength in Miami. He wants a better coach. So here's what I don't get...after the Dolphins go hard for Harbaugh and miss out, obviously showing a lack of faith in Sparano, why give the guy a 2-year extension?

Same here. That's really confusing.

Per Rotoworld.com:

Dolphins fired head coach Tony Sparano.

The Miami Herald reported this would happen on Sunday. Sparano becomes the second NFL head coach to get the axe on the 12th of December, joining Todd Haley, formerly of the Chiefs. An ex-offensive line coach with the Cowboys, Sparano wound up going 29-31 over the greater part of four seasons in Miami. He finished second in the NFL Coach of the Year voting during his first year on the job (2008), but the Dolphins' records got progressively worse. Owner Stephen Ross is expected to keep GM Jeff Ireland for now, though that could change if Ross lures someone like Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden out of the broadcasting booth. Secondary coach Todd Bowles will finish this season as the Dolphins' interim head coach. Dec 12 - 3:45 PM

This is where they go from here:

Step 1: Overpay for an out-of-work coach

Step 2: Draft Matt Barkley

Step 3: ???

Step 4: LOL

They didn't fire the guy when they were 0-7, but fire him when they've gone 4-2 lmfao! Oh, Miami.

How dare you start to turn our season around and jeopardize our high draft pick. You're fired!

They were shopping for his replacement before this season started. He was just a stop gap. He had about as much chance of keeping his job as a doughnut in Rex Ryan's office has of not being devoured.
