lol at the Packers getting 4 picks, including 2 4th rounders for losing Cullen Jenkins and a bunch of scrubs. What horseshit. The formula that determines these picks needs to be changed because that is absurd. The Chargers lost Darren Sproles who was amazing for the Saints and Kevin Burnett and they only got a 7th rounder.

the Chargers also picked up a lot of players, which is taken into account, I found a database of the free agent movement from last season here: http://www.kffl.com/...s/fa.php?y=2011

Here are the Chargers' major moves from last year (in no particular order):
Coming: Nick Novak, Tommie Harris, Everette Brown, Na'il Diggs, Travis LaBoy, Bob Sanders
Going: Darren Sproles, Legedu Naanee, David Baas, Kevin Burnett, Aubrayo Franklin, Donald Strickland
there were obviously other players on both ends that didn't seem to be of consequence to me, but if you think I left out anyone glaring let me know, based on that I think one pick is about right and while I'd probably give them something higher than a 7th rounder, I think that's reasonable

Also, here are the Packers' major moves (again, in no particular order):
Coming: Herb Taylor, Johnny Jones (literally, that's it, and I haven't heard of either, after a little search, Taylor didn't play a game and Jones was on the practice squad)
Going: Brandon Jackson, Korey Hall, Donald Lee, Daryn Colledge, Cullen Jenkins, Nick Barnett, Brady Poppinga, Atari Bigby
they definitely had a number of significant losses, but the main reason they're getting so many compensatory picks is that they didn't really pick up anybody, it's also worth noting that two of the picks they got are seventh rounders

Cullen Jenkins definitely deserves us a 4th pick lmao. Colledge, not so much. Maybe a 7th for him and a 7th for Jackson, Spitz was worth nothing to us to a 7th is generous lol.

Did any of the guys the Chargers picked up really make that big of an impact for them? And the Packers may have lost a lot of guys but none of them did anything other than Jenkins and Barnett. Sproles did just as much as both of them combined yet the Chargers only got a 7th rounder for it.

here's what's taken into account according to the PFT source in the OP:

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula.

before I say this I'm going to acknowledge that this is probably the part of the formula you would propose changing (and I would probably agree) but I would imagine that the fact that salary is taken into account probably had a lot to do with it

I thought the same thing about the Titans at first, then I realized the only decent player we lost last offseason was Stephen Tulloch and Matt Hasselbeck alone makes up for that

Daryn Colledge - 5 years, 27.5 Million
Darren Sproles - 4 years, 14 million

Why is anyone surprised Colledge got a higher pick?!

@ Raz

Could be wrong, but pretty sure the Giants pick is for Barry Cofield to the Skins

I think it's the combination of you guys losing Kevin Boss and Barry Cofield, as well as gaining David Baas.

dutchff7  : (23 May 2013 - 07:13 PM) lol yeah
dutchff7  : (23 May 2013 - 07:14 PM) Jon Beason just compared Victor Cruz to Steve Smith ?
.AirMcNair.  : (23 May 2013 - 07:14 PM) Except Steve Smith doesn't have a guy taking double coverage across from him
.AirMcNair.  : (23 May 2013 - 07:15 PM) Cruz is good, but extremely overrated
.AirMcNair.  : (23 May 2013 - 07:15 PM) Nicks is easily the best receiver on that team
dutchff7  : (23 May 2013 - 07:15 PM) Smith is a little bit more physical and faster but when I do think about it, that's probably the closest comparison to Steve; granted Cruz has to do it a few more years and not drop as many passes.
dutchff7  : (23 May 2013 - 07:15 PM) True Air
dutchff7  : (23 May 2013 - 07:15 PM) Well, Cruz still was balling while Nicks was injured
