It's Locker's job barring a giant collapse.

I'm not sure why this is still a "competition". They drafted Locker for a reason. I understand the point they are trying to make with bringing him along slowly, but the time for him to take over is now. He sat for a year (I think he started what, 2 games?) behind Hasselbeck, learned, and now he needs to put it on the field.

From everything I've witnessed him do while I've watched games, he's more than capable of making all the throws an NFL quarterback needs to make. Not to mention he can make big plays happen on the ground when he gets in trouble too. Start the kid, let him learn by making his mistakes on the field. Who knows, maybe he wont make as many mistakes as people think.

Hasselbeck still has plenty of skill and there are a lot of intangibles that come from his experience. Hasselbeck started all 16 games last year (Locker played in 5 games, all in relief) and almost got us to the playoffs, which should at least be enough to prevent the coaches from simply taking the starting spot for him no matter who's in the wings. But the bottom line is this is a team that can win now with the right QB, which means we need to make sure we get the right QB in. I do think Locker probably has a slight edge right now, but I'm not seeing practices so I really don't know where the two stand.

This QB battle is something. Locker is the future of the franchise i mean hasselbeck is 37 and way beyond his career now "twilight". Locker's for the taking but the division is interesting to with Luck and the jags being so down, and the texans with highest achievements in their franchise history in playoffs for first time so the division is intriguing. Locker has the goods!!!!

Locker officially named the starting quaterback

Quote

The Tennessee Titans made a decision Monday on a starting quarterback for the regular season-opener against the New England Patriots and it will be Jake Locker, a source with knowledge of the situation told NFL Network's Michael Lombardi.

Locker, the No. 8 overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, has been competing throughout this offseason with veteran Matt Hasselbeck, who had led the Titans to a 9-7 record in his first season in Nashville, Tenn., after spending the previous 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

In less than 100 plays in five games off the bench as a rookie, Locker completed 34 of 66 pass attempts for 542 yards with four touchdowns with eight carries for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Both quarterbacks have had shaky performances this preseason. Through two games, Locker has completed 11 of 24 pass attempts for 101 yards, while Hasselbeck is 9 of 14 for 74 yards with a pair of interceptions.

The Titans going with Locker does not come as a surprise. Of the first five quarterbacks taken in the 2011 draft, Locker was the only one who did not start a game as a rookie or have a starting job locked up at the start of this year's training camp. Locker is a more dynamic athlete than Hasselbeck and can make things happen when plays break down.

Last week, Hasselbeck acknowledged that eventually Locker would be the guy, telling the Seattle sports radio station, KJR-AM, that he was knew upon signing with the Titans after the lockout that the team was going to go at Locker's pace. When the rookie was ready, he'd be the guy.

It's yet to be seen if Locker is ready, but the Titans have decided they're not going to wait any longer.

UPDATE: A team source told Ian Rapoport on Monday that Locker is the Titans' hardest working player, someone the players look to. The move is expected to be popular in the locker room. The Titans' plan is to have Locker play roughly three quarters with the starters Thursday against the Arizona Cardinals, the first game in which the Titans will game plan for an opponent.

Interesting that they name Locker the starting QB after this week. He did not look too good against the Bucs.

Well, looks like it's Locker's team now. The Titans should be fun to watch this year.

I love the decision, I don't think I've done a perfect job of hiding the fact that I want Locker starting as soon as possible, he's supposed to be our future so we need to know soon what we've got in him, he's looked very good overall, obviously some issues have shown up, like they will with any young QB, but I think they'll iron themselves out quickly with some real experience

Matt Hasselbeck still has value. He can be one heck of a game-managing QB for a team with a good defense and runningback. Hell, that even sounds like us right now. Looks like the Titans want to take more risks, try to put more points on the board, become more dynamic, get some youth game experience and grow and be a force in 2013.

Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 11:45 PM) Last season wasn't so bad because it was a rape fest... but Bert throwing that INT in the NFCCG against the Giants at Lambeau. OMG. Kill me now. The OT loss to Zona was pretty fucking shitty too
RANGA+  : (20 May 2013 - 11:45 PM) JD is still mad about Bert :yep:
Bucman  : (20 May 2013 - 11:46 PM) Was he puking because of nerves or because he actually had the flu?
RANGA+  : (20 May 2013 - 11:46 PM) ^ lolllll i was partly joking :shifty:
Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 11:46 PM) Dmac has always been soft

Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 11:46 PM) I also think he secretly hates being black
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 11:47 PM) Nerves
Favre4Ever+  : (20 May 2013 - 11:47 PM) In his prime, it was hella fun to watch him play. But I am not a fan of him as a person, and I hate watching him try to be an analyst. He sucks
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 11:47 PM) Mcnabb is so insecure
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 11:47 PM) He wants to be loved so bad and it shows and it's so fucking annoying. i appreciate the good times we did have with him as our QB but I never really liked Mcnabb
Bucman  : (20 May 2013 - 11:48 PM) McNabb was Ronde Barber's bitch
Bucman  : (20 May 2013 - 11:48 PM) Barber had so many good plays that came against McNabb
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 11:48 PM) Like/dislike feeling when it came to him. He didn't reach me like other popular eagles players like a Dawkins or Westbrook despite his *success.
RANGA+  : (20 May 2013 - 11:50 PM) mcnabb was always a bit strange
monstersofth...  : (20 May 2013 - 11:50 PM) So he puked because he was nervous about playing in the biggest game of his life.
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 11:50 PM) I remember when McNabb was bashing RG3 saying he would never be successful in Shanahans scheme. His bitter ass was only saying that because he stunk it up in washington. Then during the season he was slobbing all over RG3. Makes me sick
monstersofth...  : (20 May 2013 - 11:50 PM) big fucking deal lol.
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 11:51 PM) There's no "so" about puking in the biggest game of your life. Get your shit together and step up. No time for that soft shit. real leaders breathe fire and step up to the plate. not throw up their guts
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 11:52 PM) No resolve whatsoever
monstersofth...  : (20 May 2013 - 11:52 PM) people handle things differently.
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 11:52 PM) Yall done got me started. That shit pisses me off so bad when I really start to think / talk about it
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 11:52 PM) yeah, he handled it like a pussy
monstersofth...  : (20 May 2013 - 11:52 PM) If he would of won this would be a non issue.
RANGA+  : (20 May 2013 - 11:53 PM)
Bucman  : (20 May 2013 - 11:53 PM) If he puked and won the SB it would be a nonissue lol
RANGA+  : (20 May 2013 - 11:53 PM) but he didnt win
RANGA+  : (20 May 2013 - 11:53 PM) thats the thing
RANGA+  : (20 May 2013 - 11:53 PM) so thats a retarded argument
Bucman  : (20 May 2013 - 11:53 PM) get outta my mind :shifty:
dutchff7  : (20 May 2013 - 11:53 PM) Ofcourse it would be a non issue. Duh lol
monstersofth...  : (20 May 2013 - 11:55 PM) but yet you guys lost and everyone is on his ass because he puked? lmao.
dutchff7  : (21 May 2013 - 12:00 AM) Yep. You can't show signs of weakness in the biggest game of your life and then lose on top of that.
monstersofth...  : (21 May 2013 - 12:00 AM) He showed weakness by throwing 2 ints at that point and getting sacked 4 times.
monstersofth...  : (21 May 2013 - 12:05 AM) I feel bad for Mcnabb I really do. for years he had absolute trash as his wide outs and kept the eagles competitve.
dutchff7  : (21 May 2013 - 12:10 AM) Yeah and when he finally got the elite receiver we all wished for, we went to the superbowl and he was throwing up.
monstersofth...  : (21 May 2013 - 12:12 AM) spoiled fans are spoiled. lol
dutchff7  : (21 May 2013 - 12:12 AM) I'm not spoiled. I wish I was. We would have a lombardi by now
monstersofth...  : (21 May 2013 - 12:13 AM) and its a shame that most people will remember him that way.
dutchff7  : (21 May 2013 - 12:15 AM) I spoke on it in the Mcnabb HoF thread. I gave my appreciation and gratitude for the *success we did have, but I didn't shy away from the bad and missed opportunities.
