Rivers, outside of this past season, Rivers has been the better QB.

Rivers has been such a good player in the regular season, and he has been more than adequate in the playoffs in his few appearances there. However he's currently on a downswing, while Eli is rising. They are incredibly close right now, and if you forced me to pick one right now it'd be Rivers, just because of how he played between 2008-2010. If we have a rpeeat performace of last year from these two QB's in the regular season alone, I'd lean Eli. If Eli repeated his postseason, it'd be him without a doubt.
Warning, Opinions may be included.

I think it's hard to say that you should take Eli because of the rings. Phillip Rivers has spent a lot of years being coached by Norv Turner. Pretty sure if Eli was in that position he wouldn't have any rings either. Having said all that you can't ignore how good Eli has been in the playoffs for the Giants. Last year Eli showed that playing behind a shitty o line and with skill players injured just about every week that he can produce and win football games. To me I think you have to pick Eli but it's not by as much as some would think.

I'll take Eli with his regular season and postseason production.

Yea Eli's regular season hasn't been as good as Rivers', but Eli makes up for it with his postseason stats, record and rings.

I don't find this to be a difficult question at all. Eli. Eli. Eli. Rivers has had teams that were more than capable of winning Super Bowls, and yet they don't get it done.

Eli has that clutch gene that most quarterbacks just don't have. Can't say I see that in Rivers.

I'll take Eli.

Man. This is one question that has always been tough. Both these guys are really good quarterbacks at this point in their careers. Rivers had a horrible season, but I expect a bounce back this year. I'm taking Eli based solely on his clutch gene.

I'll take Eli because he can perform so well under pressure. It is a close one though. I like both QB's a lot.

Eli by a long shot, IMO.

I see way more upside, and Rivers has had chances to get it done. It's not entirely his fault, of course, but he's gotta receive some of the blame for San Diego never even winning the AFC while he's been there, despite all that talent they have had on their team.

That is tough. Before the past postseason I would have said Rivers, but after having a OK season as a team the Giants made a run behind Eli and beat one of the best QBs in the game for the SECOND time in the Superbowl. That has to count for something.

I think Rivers has become somewhat forgotten, but I'd go with Eli. I don't like using "clutch" as an explanation but theres really no other way to explain how Eli consistently gets better when it counts.

Rivers, for the reasons Razor outlined. I think Norv has killed Rivers' chances and until he's gone, the Chargers won't win anything. Tom Coghlin is a far superior coach and Eli was coached up by an incredible QB coach in Mike Sullivan.

This is pretty much how I feel about this question. Eli just gets it done. The bigger the situation, the bigger he becomes and plays. He's always been that way, too. Even before he became the postseason juggernaut we now know him as, he was the best fourth quarter QB in the league. Now he's get a good enough team to make playoff runs, and he answers the call.

Rivers has had some great teams, and they just couldn't get it done. I know Norv is a big part of that too, but I'm not letting Philip off of the hook. He throws mostly checkdowns for the majority of most games, and he does it well. He's given a lot of credit for throwing deep, and to his credit he does throw a nice ball, but most of the time it's a 3-7 yard pass and a big run that helps him compile his stats. It also doesn't hurt when you have a corp of WRs who can jump through the clouds either.

Basically, Rivers is good, but Eli is great.

Had this discussion a million times and I take Eli every time. Rivers is never as good during the season as he is projected to be, and although Eli is hyped up as well, he usually performs to par.

Eli is great based on what? The fact that he's won 2 SBs, 2 SBs MVPs, and has a lot of comebacks? Or his career stats?

I certainly hope it's not for the latter.

And as it relates to Rivers duping the ball off 3-7 yards... He's averaging 8.0 yards per attempt for his career, that puts him in a pretty elite group of QBs.

Even though I thought it was really close I'm surprised to see so many people taking Rivers. I guess I underestimated TGP. It's easy to forget how awesome Rivers has been and he bad Eli has been at times after last year. You can look at his stats from the past but really Eli has come into his own the last 3 or so years. You have to take the guy who has proven that he has what it takes to win playoff games against tough opponents on the road and win Super Bowls imo, but if Rivers ever gets his fair shot he might just prove he can do the same thing.
