Welker.

2011:
Yards
Welker-1569 (98.1 Y/G)
Smith-1394 (87.1 Y/G)

TDs
Welker-9
Smith-7

Catches
Welker-122
Smith-79

2010:
Yards
Welker-848 (56.5 Y/G)
Smith-554 (39.6 Y/G)

TDs
Welker-7
Smith-2

Catches
Welker-86
Smith-46

Yes I know Smith's QBs sucked in '10..but in '11 his QB was pretty damn good and Welker's numbers were still better. So how is this not even a debate lol?

Both in their prime, I'm going with Smith. Right now though, I'm taking Welker for sure. He's methodical with his craft. Surehanded—for the most part—and agile. His routes are near perfect, he isn't afraid to go over the middle, and he's always been a team guy. Plus, his skill set will probably lend him to the NFL for a few more years than Smith at this point.

Smith's versatility, if nothing else puts him well above Welker.

You put Welker at the X or y and his production probably takes a considerable dip.

You put Smith at the x or y, and you get what you've been getting with him his whole career. You put him in the slot, and you wouldn't get all that much of a production dip in comparison to Welker.

:yeahthat:

You can put Smith in the slot or as a #1 WR and he will still produce big time. He is a good deep threat and can catch passes underneath.

Before last season when Smith went off, he had been getting very underrated by most NFL fans.

Agreed.

As far as numbers go, Welker has Tom Brady throwing to him. I don't care how overhyped Cam has gotten, he is no Tom Brady. Not to mention, Welker is a slot receiver. He doesn't go up and make the catches in coverage. He's a great receiver, don't get me wrong, but he's not as good as Steve Smith, no way.

Ok the whole Tom Brady throwing to him is not that relevant if you want to argue he is in the slot which tend to run shorter routes and are nickel and dime passes under coverage. And I can agree Smith can go on the outside and produce more than Welker, but that doesn't mean Welker can't produce on the outside. He has went up and got catches in coverage. Maybe not double coverage like Smith, but he does still have amazing ball skills. If you want to talk versatility then its Welker which is the reason I picked him. Smith maybe able to line up inside or outside, but the schemes and routes and plays you can run quickly become expanded with Welker. Its those certain quick twitch screens and underneath stuff that Welker is just better at then most WRs. And him being in the slot doesn't really matter I'm sure teams aren't going out and saying oh he is in the slot can't double or triple cover him. They put bodies on him, but his route running is just too good to be stopped hence him catching a high amount of passes every year.
