Thursday night's preseason action in San Diego will make a little NFL history. As first reported by Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times, replacement official Shannon Eastin will work Thursday's game between the San Diego Chargers and Green Bay Packers.

Eastin will become the first female official of an NFL game. The real question now is if she'll be the first female to work during an NFL regular season game.

There have been no signs of progress of late during the standoff between the NFL and its officials. The replacement officials worked Sunday night's Hall of Fame Game to mixed results.

I don't see how she can be any worse than the refs in the HoF game. She's supposed to be pretty good, actually.

Also, I love the first comment on this story:

"Cool, Philipa Rivers won't be the only woman out there."

I hear it's difficult to officiate a game from the kitchen. :troll:

The officiating last night was just horrible. She probably would do a better job then the refs last night. I just don't think mixing the sexes in football is a good idea just like it's not a good idea for correctional officer females to officiate male prisons if you get my drift. Maybe on the paranoid side a lil but I just think the NFL needs to come to terms with the experienced refs.

I'm so excited to see this! I think it's great to start integrating qualified female officials into the NFL :D

There is one chick in my high school football officials association. We brought this story to all of our attention last season as she (the NFL female referee) was rising up the ranks. She's 17 and in HS, but she loves to call football. Women can referee football

Let's see how it goes. It shouldn't matter what your gender is when you're reffing, only if you get the calls right, and give the Raiders and Lions a few extra shit calls.

It's interesting how prior to seeing these inexperienced refs, people really took the normal refs for granted. Think about it; people complain a lot about how our regular refs are "amateurs" and don't deserve to have a job. Hopefully a settlement is reached soon.

However, assuming these replacements officiate into the regular season, I'm anticipating a good shoutbox outing or two from NBB.

Anyone else catch that she is a six-time Judo champion? I'm no longer concerned about her getting hurt, lol.

blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 02:21 PM) i think a real coach could turn blake griffin into a superstar
JetsFan4Life  : (21 May 2013 - 02:21 PM) No one is turning Blake Griffin into a superstar lol
JetsFan4Life  : (21 May 2013 - 02:21 PM) He's a highlight reel that's it
CampinWithGo...  : (21 May 2013 - 02:22 PM) I wouldn't say hes close to the being a great PF but Griffin is already a superstar.
CampinWithGo...  : (21 May 2013 - 02:22 PM) Players who aren't super stars don't get commercials built off them.
CampinWithGo...  : (21 May 2013 - 02:22 PM) Is it deserved? No. And he's not a great PF and he's pretty overrated. But he is a Super Star.
CampinWithGo...  : (21 May 2013 - 02:23 PM) superstar is fame, not skill.
JetsFan4Life  : (21 May 2013 - 02:25 PM) That's celebrity to me

blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 02:26 PM) i disagree, great coaches can make talent a lot better
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 02:27 PM) and vinnie del negro isnt a great coach
CampinWithGo...  : (21 May 2013 - 02:27 PM) VDN is terrible
CampinWithGo...  : (21 May 2013 - 02:27 PM) joke of a head coach.
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 02:28 PM) exactly
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 02:28 PM) which is why i think its ridiculous to think that he was able to get 100% out of Griffin
CampinWithGo...  : (21 May 2013 - 02:29 PM) If you don't already, follow @haralabob on twitter. He knows basketball better than you or I or anyone we know.

blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:32 PM) yeah. i had to go to a stupid meeting that was clearly designed for freshman
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:32 PM) kinda made me feel shitty
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:32 PM) and i had to take a stupid quiz
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:32 PM) but no more!
BenJarvus Gr...  : (21 May 2013 - 04:32 PM) lol my school doesn't enforce that kind of BS
BenJarvus Gr...  : (21 May 2013 - 04:33 PM) only thing was that you had to register for classes with an academic advisor
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:35 PM) at my school thats normally a thing, but in the engineering school everyone has to do that
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:35 PM) (annoying as hell btw)
BenJarvus Gr...  : (21 May 2013 - 04:35 PM) that sucked since you couldn't take the time personally to look over classes and search the profs on ratemyprofessor.com lol
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:36 PM) oh, i dont know how your school is, but you can make a "wishlist" at mine
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:36 PM) so i can do all the reasearch into classes and teachers before the meeting
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:36 PM) and after the meeting i can mess with my schedule as much as i want
BenJarvus Gr...  : (21 May 2013 - 04:37 PM) yeah can't do that at my school
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:38 PM) thats dumb
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:38 PM) do you go to a small school?
BenJarvus Gr...  : (21 May 2013 - 04:38 PM) I go to an overpopulated CC though... classes fill up pretty quickly lol
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:38 PM) thats weird then
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:39 PM) i figured that small schools would want the personal interaction
BenJarvus Gr...  : (21 May 2013 - 04:39 PM) there's literally 20,000+ students at my CC
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:39 PM) but mizzou has like 35k people so they dont really have the time
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:39 PM) holy shit thats a big community college
BenJarvus Gr...  : (21 May 2013 - 04:40 PM) yeah, it's the 2nd biggest school in NJ behind Rutgers
blotsfan  : (21 May 2013 - 04:40 PM) the buffalo area community college has 3 campuses that dont add up to that many people
