Chris Johnson visiting with New York Jets

The New York Jets are taking the next step toward potentially signing running back Chris Johnson.

Gang Green is hosting the veteran runner at its training facility, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoportreported Tuesday, citing a source who spotted Johnson in the building. ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the news.

With the Jets' run-first mentality, pairing the uber-durable Johnson with the often-injured Chris Ivory makes complete sense. However, several reports have indicated that general manager John Idzik only is interested in Johnson at the right price.

The Tennessee Titans cut the 28-year-old back and his $8 million contract earlier this month. He won't see close to that amount on his next deal.

The Jets have been our front-runner to land Johnson from the start. They will get the first crack at keeping him from walking out without a contract. However, Idzik hasn't exactly moved hastily when given similar chances this offseason.

Signing Johnson this week would put the running back in a position to participate when the Jets begin their offseason workouts, which start April 21.

Keep up to date on all of Johnson's free agency reports and activities with our CJ2K tracker.

Not a surprise here.

Surprised the Falcons aren't in on this.

But I hope we can land Terrance West in the draft...that would be greatttt

if I'm not mistaken, the Jets are the first team he's reported to have visited, that doesn't mean nobody else is interested and talking to him and his agent

Right. For some reason I think he's going to land a contract with NY. Would be a good fit IMO.

Heard we tried to trade for him...but didn't work out so that's good. We'll see what happens, but I wouldn't mind him in Atlanta for the right price.

He's going to flop unless he ends up with an awesome OL. I think the Broncos would make the most sense if he's looking to have success. If he just wants money, which seems like a "CJ2K" thing to do, I say he ends up with the Jets, even if he visits other teams.

Chris Johnson lands with Jets
Updated: April 16, 2014, 3:32 PM ET
By Rich Cimini | ESPN.com
After a relatively conservative first month of free agency, the New York Jets made one of the splashiest moves of the offseason, reaching agreement with former Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson on a two-year contract, league sources tell ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Johnson, released April 4, generated little interest on the open market. He visited with only one team -- the Jets -- wrapping up his visit Tuesday. They wanted to get him signed before the start of their offseason program next week. No other team was identified as a serious suitor.

well, so much for other visits, I didn't see financial terms in the ESPN article but they may get added later

Pretty much everyone saw this coming. Having Chris Johnson and Chris Ivory in their back field should be interesting. I'd also like to see Vick starting. Wouldn't be an efficient offense but can potentially be exciting and I think Chris Johnson would benefit from having a running QB.

Not seeing the hype with Terrance West but Lacy and Bell did a lot better than I thought they would of last year so who knows.

Why would you basically put the nail in the coffin that has become your career instead of chasing a ring with a playoff team? For slightly more money? Idgi...
