Not surprisingly, Jimmy Garoppolo looks fucking TERRIBLE

Recommended Posts

Totally agree with you here. Today's NFL is rough, especially at the quarterback position. They want rookies to be like Russell Wilson out of the gate, but it usually never works out that way.

people also like to forget that generally when QBs excel out of the gate they usually join a team that gives them a pretty good supporting cast

People can shit on Garop for beating up 3rd stringers; but watching him, he did good. Dude was putting the ball on the money majority of the time. Plus he had that beautiful one to Tyms. Put it right in the basket over the top of a defensive back.

So you're saying that if we can knock out Brady and Mallett we'll have a chance to split the series with New England?

Settle down here folks, Jimbo is still dog shit.

Brian Tyms/Redskins useless scrubs made him look a lot better than he actually is. :coffee:

That's why I'm saying we'd need the third stringer to be playing

Exactly. :yao:

And no, I'm not impressed that Jimmy is doing well against practice squad/soon-to-be-cut trash. When he's lighting up someone other than the likes of Curtis Marsh, let me know.

Garappolo was ok in the only action I've seen him in against the Eagles. He was actually out there against Curry and Graham with his second team offensive starters so he was rushed a little bit. He didn't make any huge mistakes, but Belichick gave him a ton of easy throws off of great play designs. He made one really awesome throw. Outside of that...he could be a decent back up, but you need to get more than that from a 2nd round pick imo. I'm sure some dumb ass team in need of a QB overpays the Pats for him though and they recoup that hit of taking him way too early in the 2nd.

WHY are we trying to decide what he is and whether the pick was worth it in PRESEASON week 3?

Because we're on a football message board and it's still kind of the offseason. What's the point of being here and talking sports all the time without speculating or predicting and shit like that?

It's not just pre-season though. It's his tape from college. Plus, I mean, arm talent wise, size wise, athletically wise, footwork wise, what has ever made you think the guy was a starter or worth a 2nd round pick? Sometimes there are things you can legitimately take away from the pre-season. I agree that we shouldn't get too carried away, but the pre-season is an evaluation process is it not?

Garoppolo was always going to be a project. He was highly regarded because of an accurate arm and elite release. I guess that's fine if you feel confident about what he will be in the future, but in general I think fans are way too quick to come to a conclusion on rookies. And it doesn't make sense to try and make a decision on a project talent when he's three preseason games into his development. Maybe if he was supposed to be polished and pro ready, but coming out he was regarded as the opposite of that.

I guess I'll just say that by the same token of this being a football forum, I think those types of predictions are pointless and premature.

Doesn't make sense to me to pick a guy as a project just because he was accurate in college when he's not athletic and he doesn't have a big arm. If I'm taking a guy who's raw and super talented like Brett Favre was all those years ago, not a guy like Garappolo. jmo though.

The thing about predictions on who's good and who's not in the NFL is they're often wrong and always changing because every player is constantly being evaluated. RIGHT NOW Garappolo is a back up QB. That's all he's shown in my eyes. Could that change? Sure, but as of now, that's what he is.

Saying what a player is in the here and now isn't a prediction. It's an observation.

Lol... well? What do you want me to say?

"I predict that this player is as good as he is right now..."

What does that even mean?

What has he shown? Apparently he looked like shit in camp where the defense isn't going to get fooled on play designs they see every day. He's shown some accuracy, but he hasn't had to make a lot of tough throws, so I predict since he's shown nothing as of now that he'll suck. What's unreasonable about that? Sometimes you can get a good read off a player in one offseason. Some guys have more room to grow than others. Do you think he's shown upside? I don't so I don't really think he'll get any better.

Nothing's unreasonable about saying that on a forum, if that's what you want to do.

I just find it silly to start making these predictions so early, that will be subject to change probably a dozen more times before we have an idea of who Garoppolo will ultimately be (as you yourself said about the nature of predictions). What's so unreasonable about me saying that?

Yes, I think he's shown upside. I think that's why he was drafted. And if you want my honest opinion, I think you're looking for the evidence to fit your prediction that Belichick drafted a bust. That's kind of my inkling here... you'd like for him to suck, so you're going to interpret the evidence as though it's pointing to that end game. Which is also why I think you're making the conclusion so early on. It's fine. We all do it from time to time. Just an observation.
