Panthers Release Jason Avant

Recommended Posts

The Carolina Panthers overhauled their wide receiver group in the offseason, replacing their top four options from a year ago with rookie Kelvin Benjamin and veterans like Jerricho Cotchery and Jason Avant.

On Tuesday, the Panthers admitted that the plan wasn't all working. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that Avant has been waived, according to a source informed of the move.

Avant had 21 catches in 11 games, and his criticism of Ron Rivera's tepid approach to the end of Sunday's loss wound up being his final remarks in Carolina.

"I've been in the league a long time," Avant said after the game, via The Charlotte Observer. "I know two things. You never want to give a team a chance to win a game, with how much time was left on the clock. And asking a kicker to make a 50-yard field goal with the game on the line is rough sledding. If that's the only option, yes. But if it's not, you want to get as close as you can and think score and play to score a touchdown."

Avant gets cut for his logical thinking processes... He did suck though, so not much of a loss.

lmaoPanthers.

Avant points out what cost them the win, and he gets cut.

Olsen said the same damn thing, Panthers gonna cut him too?

Talk about dysfunction. At least Avant can go play somewhere relevant, now.

You wouldn't think that submitting to public pressure and deactivating one player could have turned into this kind of disaster, but it has. Factor in Cam's health and you've got a portable toilet sitting on its head.

There are better years in the very near future for the Panthers organization, but this is like watching fire spread along a gasoline trail to a pile of wood.

Per Rotoworld.com:

Chiefs signed WR Jason Avant.
Avant will reunite with Andy Reid after being released from Carolina earlier in the week. He knows Reid's offense and could provide an upgrade opposite Dwayne Bowe. Avant had just a 21/201/1 line with the Panthers this season. Nov 21 - 4:40 PM
