oochymp 2,393 Posted December 18, 2014 There's no way Cutler is gonna restructure his contract. He'll never see anything like this again (shouldn't have seen it in the first place). And if any team trades for Cutler with that contract that GM should be shipped outta the country. The way I see this going down is that Cutler & Bears relationship is unfixable. His time is done there's no repairing the damage. They'll release him. I heard on ESPN Radio or NFL radio or something that his contract allows him to, if he signs with another team, nullify guaranteed money the Bears pay with another contract. Basically, since he's owed $15.5M next year, if another team signs him to a $10M guaranteed next year, the Bears only have to pay 5.5 of that. Idk if that's how all contracts work or just his. But that's something to think about for the situation. That means he might sign somewhere for the veteran minimum out of spite
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted December 18, 2014 Just watched Jay's press conference... I have never seen him so excited, enthused, or happy in his entire time time with Chicago. He was laughing and joking with reporters throughout the presser and was very laid back the entiire time. Now you can take this two ways... He was really stressed out and this benching will actually help him get better as he gets to just sit back and destress. . Or... He doesn't take this seriously and is just happy he signed his contract when he did.
Sarge+ 3,436 Posted December 19, 2014 (edited) Cutler always struck me as someone who only does it for the money. You could say that about a lot of players, but at least most of them really love football, too. I don't think Cutler does. He just seems like he does it because he could throw a ball insanely well when he was young, and people groomed him to get to the NFL and make big bucks. He saw it as a ticket to a big lifestyle. He doesn't strike me as someone who is very passionate about the game though. So now he gets to sit out and still get paid. No wonder he's smiling and laughing. He's like the anti-DA.He doesn't put his heart and soul into this shit. He doesn't work his ass off every week. Edited December 19, 2014 by Sarge
oochymp 2,393 Posted December 19, 2014 (edited) I see where you're getting that Sarge, but I don't think he'd have lasted this long if he didn't work his ass off, maybe he could be working hard or more, but you don't last nine years in the NFL without putting the time and effort in, coaches are usually really good at spotting guys who absolutely don't give a shit and running them off Edited December 19, 2014 by oochymp
BigBen07 285 Posted December 19, 2014 (edited) http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000445356/article/eight-potential-landing-spots-for-jay-cutler-in-2015 <--- the Bills are listed as a potential destination.... I'm quite sure he's not going there. Buffalo is progressing slowly in the right direction, and I think Cutler would actually hinder it badly. And I know that the Bills need a QB, but at least Orton actually shows that he cares. Edited December 19, 2014 by BigBen07
theMileHighGuy 656 Posted December 19, 2014 I watched Cutler at Vandy and later when he supplanted my favorite QB since the guy who made me like the Broncos, and not for a second was he ever not a competitor. The dude craves competition and he hates losing as much as anyone. He has goofy facial expressions and they don't always show it, but losing this many games kills him. The one thing I will say is, "at least it used to". I hated Cutler when Shanny put him in when we were 7-4, the year after we hit the AFCCG, and then we finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs. He grew on me though, he was fun to watch, and rarely did it feel like we were completely out of a game. Jay's problem from day one was that he tries too hard, and tries to force things that aren't there. I haven't followed him as closely since he went to the Bears, but he definitely looks disassociated lately. Trestman seems like a complete high-pants'd tool to play for, and building morale with him the building has to be impossible. I wouldn't want to play for him either. oochymp 2,393 Posted December 21, 2014 I'm generally not a huge fan of Pete Prisco, but this is an interesting write up on Cutler: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/pete-prisco/24900109/one-stat-that-largely-defines-why-jay-cutler-is-having-such-a-bad-season major highlight: Cutler has thrown 332 passes while trailing, 213 while trailing by nine or more, he's thrown 525 passes so that's 63% and 40% respecitvely, and that's insane, Prisco provides the following players for comparison, throws while trailing are listed first, followed by throws while trailing by nine or more, and I've added total throws at the end: Peyton Manning -- 228 (117) [516] Russell Wilson -- 148 (39) [396] Tom Brady -- 163 (67) [531] Aaron Rodgers -- 164 (69) [458] it's an interesting stat to note because no QB plays better when they're playing from behind, this is certainly not to say that Cutler couldn't be playing better, but serves to point out that he hasn't had a whole lot of help and could end up looking a lot better next season if he's in a better situation
Sarge+ 3,436 Posted December 21, 2014 Isn't Cutler at fault for the other team getting early leads though? I get what you're saying and I think it has some merit, but I don't know if it's a cure-all.
theMileHighGuy 656 Posted December 22, 2014 The Bears having one of the worst defenses in the NFL (3rd in yards, 1st in points allowed) has to count for a lot of the deficit too.

I get what you're saying and I think it has some merit, but I don't know if it's a cure-all. Cutler is certainly not absolved of blame, but it's worth noting that he's not the only player on the Bears that's playing like crap this year the article also notes that only 3 of his 18 ints have been in the first quarter and seven have come on attempt 30 or later in the game, when you'd expect a team and a QB to be pressing things, especially when trailing
Vin+ 3,121 Posted December 22, 2014 Santa Clausen is out this week due to a concussion, so Cutler is back in.
badgers 380 Posted December 22, 2014 I got no stats to base this on but the Bears offense is inefficient and dysfunctional for most games. Their offensive line has improved a lot so you can't blame that anymore. They've got Martellus Bennet, Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffrey, and Matt Forte as weapons. There's no excuse to fall behind as much as they are, doesn't matter about the D. Ignoring Cutler, you assume that with that offense you at least keep up with high scoring offenses. When your offense has the talent it does and still isn't producing you look at either the coach or QB. In this case I think it's both. And Oochy idk if you have info on this but is Cutler possibly so good when trailing by 9 or more because other teams put backups in at the end of the game? oochymp 2,393 Posted December 22, 2014 And Oochy idk if you have info on this but is Cutler possibly so good when trailing by 9 or more because other teams put backups in at the end of the game? what do you mean so good? the stats I posted just shows that he's had a lot of passes while trailing, it says nothing about the quality of those passes

Vin+ 3,121 Posted January 26, 2015 Jay Cutler has a "strong, personal relationship" with new QBs coach Dowell Loggains, and Cutler lobbied for the Bears to hire Loggains when Lovie Smith was still head coach. The Bears' hire of Loggains under new coach John Fox suggests the team intends to keep Cutler for 2015, despite speculation Cutler could be traded. It's believed Loggains won't be "afraid to challenge Cutler, which the quarterback welcomes." A former Titans assistant, Loggains reportedly "pushed hard" for Tennessee to draft Cutler over Vince Young in 2006. Almost all signs point to Cutler remaining the Bears' quarterback in 2015. oochymp 2,393 Posted January 26, 2015 let's be honest tho, most of the Titans' coaching staff "pushed hard" for the team to take Cutler over Young
