Jayrus 51 Posted July 31, 2015 Wow, I honestly didn't expect Seattle to agree to so much money. I had hoped they could get him for something closer to 18m a year. Here's hoping they have a plan to keep the salary cap from unraveling our team over the next couple years.
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted July 31, 2015 Guarantees are crazy, but the short term nature of the deal is a big gamble on Russell's part. it probably doesn't pay off so good on him for gett as much as he did in this deal.
BwareDWare94 723 Posted July 31, 2015 I just can't fathom paying the 10th best QB in the league like he's the second best. 1. Rodgers 2. Brady 3. Ben 4. Peyton 5. Rivers 6. Romo 7. Luck 8. Brees 9. Cam 10. Wilson--and I'm hard pressed to put him at #10. 1
Sarge+ 3,436 Posted July 31, 2015 I would put Wilson over Cam and Brees without hesitation, personally. So at that point he's 8th. Making him in the top 25% of starting QB's. It's easy to understand why he got paid, but that doesn't mean it's not going to hurt Seattle eventually.
56AceInDaPlace 110 Posted July 31, 2015 Seattle will have a few more years to contend at top level. Eventually they won't be able to keep paying all their top guys. Every dynasty or team that continues to win fall out. It's good they paid him though. He deserves a big pay day.

Vin+ 3,121 Posted July 31, 2015 (edited) I'll go ahead and say that this will be the last contract he gets with the Seahawks. Edited August 1, 2015 by Vin words that don't belong
BwareDWare94 723 Posted August 1, 2015 stop with your Matt Ryan hate Yeah, I would prefer Matt Ryan over Wilson at 10. And Flacco over him at 11. And Eli over him at 12....
seanbrock 1,684 Posted August 1, 2015 Don't forget that Seattle essentially went out and traded for Jimmy Graham as another investment in Wilson
RazorStar 4,025 Posted August 1, 2015 Let's also not forget that Russell Wilson is a legend and is going to take the Seahawks to a third straight superb owl. >_>
BC 331 Posted August 1, 2015 (edited) I'm happy to see it happen. It is a lot but he's one tough kid to stop, and the most successful QB the franchise has had already. I never believed letting him walk was ever an option, as stated in the last page or so. We have quite a few cornerstone players, if we can just continue to utilize Schneider's drafting skills to fill in the cracks with low budget solutions, and possibly franchise Bobby Wagner, we should see similar results. Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted August 2, 2015 I like that he wasn't deemed worthy of making more money than Aaron Rodgers. This is the third year of Aaron's contract and it is still being set as the bar for all other QB contracts. Wilson wanted to be the highest paid player... There were rumors he wanted full guarantees. Nope.. to both. Every negotiation so far for franchise QB extensions have come with the caveat of... "We will pay you but not more than this (enter Aaron's contract here) ". Let's see if Andrew Luck can buck the trend.

When you said "one tough kid to stop," I realized that you'd switched over to talking about Marshawn Lynch. Should have clarified that! seanbrock 1,684 Posted August 15, 2015 Interesting stat I looked up. When Russell Wilson throws for over 30 attempts he's been pretty good most of the time. 2014 vs. Denver- 99.9 QB rating W @ St. Louis 110.1 QB rating L vs. Oakland 63.9 QB rating W @ Kansas City 98.2 QB rating L @ Philadelphia 99.2 QB ratingW @ Arizona 122.9 QB rating W 2013 @ Carolina 115.7 QB rating W @ Indianapolis 78.7 QB rating L vs. Tennessee 98.5 QB rating W vs. New Orleans 139.6 QB rating W 2012 @ Arizona 62.5 QB rating L @ Detroit 96.8 QB rating L @ Chicago 104.9 QB rating W Seattle has an 8-5 record in games that Wilson throws more than 30 times and he's really only had 3 stinkers in 13 games.
