Cobb: " I Want To Win Championships."

Recommended Posts

Per Rotoworld.com:

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports free agent Randall Cobb could be seeking $12 million annually.
At least that was the scuttlebutt at the Combine. Cobb's original asking price was reportedly $9 million. The Packers could have secured Cobb for $12.823 million by giving him the franchise tag, but instead they'll let him test the market. $12 million isn't a realistic number for a player who, according to Pro Football Focus, played 87.3 percent of his snaps in the slot last season. No one is gonna put Cobb on a top-10 list, yet he's looking for top-3 money. Whoever does decide to pay him, they'll probably cut him in 2016. Not because he's not a good player, but you can't pay that kind of money to non-elite skill players in today's league.

Great player. Greater person. He will be missed in Green Bay. With Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams, Jared Abbrederis, TEH GAWD Jeff Janis, and apparently a draft in which the Packers love the depth at WR, I can't fathom paying him $12 million.

If he doesn't come down or just wants the money, I wish him nothing but the best. Good luck to him in Oakland or Jacksonville.

$12M is #1 WR money, Cobb is not a #1 WR

Love Cobb and enjoyed watching him, but he is nowhere close to being worth $12 million, especially when you have Rodgers. I will miss his clutch catches and how good he was at the scramble drills, but I have high hopes for Abbrederis, if he can bounce back from that ACL tear, and McCarthy has been raving about Janis.

I think I am going to say that Cobb can be a #1 receiver, he has a very similar skill set to Nelson and I remember here a few years ago people were saying Jordy wasn't #1 material.

Green Bay won't pay that type of money for him so if this is legit then he is gone which is sad. There is just too much depth at WR there already add to the fact that they love this WR class. Safe to say he is probably gone.

I think he can be too. He's a GREAT GREAT player. And he's only 24. Just entering his prime. Somebody will probably give him 12, just depends what he will actually accept from us.

Id be surprised if he gets the 12 from Green Bay, as you said previously Jennings wanted 10 and was offered 8-9 so I would expect to see Cobb elsewhere next season.

Best fits imo would be the Panthers but can easily see him with the Raiders.

Did not realize he's only 24, that changes things, not sure the Pack can invest that much in the WR spot tho

I just think it's too good to be true for a wide receiver like Randall Cobb to hit free agency on the open market. I would imagine that if the Packers offer him around 8 and another team comes in only to offer what he's seeking, he sticks with the Packers.

With that said, can you imagine the suitors here? I mean, what teams that are even relatively close to a playoff contender would offer Cobb more than what he's seeking? Perhaps Baltimore, Kansas City? I would even throw in the Panthers as being a possible suitor if they can get the salary to work out the way they want it in the long term.

I don't know, it just seems a bit of a pipe dream. I'm not sure you walk into a situation as good as you have it in Green Bay, money aside.

Ya, like I said.. I really think Randall values the town and team above other WRs that came before him. That could just be me thinking more with my heart than my brain, though. I mean, there are now a few examples of former Packer WRs moving on who just don't live up to expectations.

Does Cobb take heed of precedent and maybe take a little less money to stay in Green Bay with the leagues best QB and a great chance to win a title(s) or will he forsake all of that for the payday he rightfully deserves? We shall see. I don't want to add him to the collection above.

With the Andre Johnson news that hit yesterday, I hope my Texans throw their hat into the ring for the Cobb Sweepstakes. I still remember when they traded back up into the 2nd round I was chanting and hoping for them to draft Cobb as he was one of my favorite prospects in the entire 2011 draft class. Instead they fucking took Brandon Harris...

Cobb could be the slot dynamo O'Brien's offense is severely lacking at the moment.

I saw a few Packers fans who were throwing around the idea of letting Cobb leave for $12M+ and then signing Andre on a short term deal for like $8M. He'd automatically become the biggest WR the Packers have had in.... Like my entire life. He's listed as the same height as Jordy, but I really think 6'3" for Jordy is generous. No point in arguing over an inch anyway, but AJ just has that bigger more robust body that Aaron has never really been able to throw to.

I really wouldn't expect it to happen, but if for whatever reason the Packers go back on their praise on their young developing WRs, I think AJ would be a great stop gap... Even with him aging.

Andre would be great for Green Bay. He's a reliable possession receiver that can also play in the slot to make up for the potential loss of Cobb. Double-teaming Jordy would just leave Andre with extremely favorable matchups. Rodgers would be licking his chops in those scenarios.

If any team gives Cobb $12 mil per year, they will regret it immediately. At the absolute most, he's worth $10 mil, and I still wouldn't even pay that.

how long until the WR contract bubble busts the way the RB one did? if you look at the top of the WR contract list you see a lot of guys that're getting over paid, sure you've got Calvin Johnson at the top and now Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas at 2 and 3 (both on the franchise tag) but the next five are (in order) Mike Wallace, Dwayne Bowe, Vincent Jackson, Larry Fitzgerald, and Percy Harvin, none of them are awful, but I'm not sure any would be in my top ten WR list and if Cobb gets $12M he'll be right there between Wallace and Bowe, and sure Cobb is good, but is he really worth top five WR money?

Carolina can totally make it work. We have quite a bit of potential cap space if we need it via restructures. Idk if he's worth 12 mil, but if Gettleman thinks he's the last piece we need, (he isn't), I could see him throwing 12 mil at him.

However, from what I've seen of G-man, I think he's far more likely to go cheaper in FA. If he could get Andre for 8mil maybe, if not probably just draft another WR.

Is this more about the previous bubble bursting or creating an entirely new one? Jeremy Maclin and Torrey Smith are also scheudled to be FAs and with the cap going up so much, teams are probably looking to spend. It's a new era of younger, more explosive WRs and they are looking for that cash! Teams will oblige, I feel.

This guy would actually be a near perfect fit for KC, on paper. They can dump Bowe, which I kinda already expect, and put that money into a guy who had excelled in the slot. Since their QB literally can't stretch the field, a dynamic slot guy who can catch and go would be ideal. Add top that we have a coach with a dink and dunk mindset and it just makes sense

Per Rotoworld.com:

A league source told Packer Report's Bill Huber the Raiders are considering offering free agent Randall Cobb "a blockbuster deal."
The same source said Jacksonville is "prepared to make a run" at Cobb. The source claims Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie -- an ex-Packers personnel man -- is willing to offer Cobb $11 million annually, a price Green Bay GM Ted Thompson almost certainly wouldn't match. Cobb would replace James Jones as the Raiders' slot receiver. His fantasy outlook would take a huge blow in Oakland. Mar 4 - 10:09 AM
The Packers reportedly informed free agent Randall Cobb's camp that they are willing to sign him to a five-year deal worth $8-9 million annually.
Agent Jimmy Sexton "basically has told the team he's confident more lucrative offers await." Venerable Packers beat writer Bob McGinn confirms the Jaguars are "expected to be all over Cobb," while the Raiders are "also ready to enter the Cobb sweepstakes." Concludes McGinn, "barring the unexpected ... it appears as if Cobb will be playing elsewhere next season." Mar 4 - 10:22 AM

I've said for quite a while that I wouldn't pay Cobb more than $9M a year. I wanted him for $6M but I'm also a cheap fucker, and I see virtually no signs that Cobb can be a franchise receiver ($8M+).

Anyways. I can't understand why Packer fans seem so high on Abberderis and Jeff Janis? They've yet to play a game in the NFL. How the hell can they take over for Randall Cobb lmfao? I'm not saying they can't just that you can't put that faith in them. Same with Davante Adams. He could be great. But he could also pull a Jarrett Boykin. I don't think he will, I think he's better than Boykin but still. He could take a tumble, you never know.

I can live with what the Packers reportedly offered him. If he wants more than that he will leave. This draft is pretty thick in WR talent I've heard, and there's quite a few solid FA pickups at the position who might be value signings. Also, on some other Packers boards, I've heard that Greg Jennings might be cut by Minnesota this year (idk why, I'd guess he's being paid too much) and I agree with them that he might be a nice stop-gap pickup until we can fill the role with a full time receiver or until our current guys develop more. He knows the system and the team. He'd be cheaper than Cobb. Plus he's my favorite player from the Packers so it's a win-win.

1. Fuck Greg Jennings in the ass.

2. Jared is the hometown guy. That gives him bonus points and fans want to see him succeed.

3. Ya, it's preseason. Ya, it's backups. But you flash potential and you are going to catch the eyes of fans and coaches, as Janis has.
