Update: Texans to appear on Hard Knocks

Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News is hearing the Browns are the "front-runner" to be featured on HBO's 2015 Hard Knocks series.

This would be a doozy. The Browns have reached a new low in terms of organizational dysfunction under (accused) federal criminal Jimmy Haslam, drafting Johnny Manziel per the owner's orders and also whiffing (so far) on No. 8 overall pick Justin Gilbert. Manziel has been in rehab for more than six weeks. GM Ray Farmer proved in well above his head in his first year on the job, illegally text messaging the Browns' sideline during 2014 games. The dysfunction led to OC Kyle Shanahan essentially quitting after the season. Currently, the Browns have easily the NFL's worst offensive depth chart. The Browns opening their doors to HBO's cameras would give the world a real chance to see what a perennial loser looks like, and why bad teams in the NFL tend to stay bad.

An inside look on how to not run a franchise? Count me in. Might be the first time I ever tune into a hard knocks.

Ray Farmar is not a bad GM. He is just stuck in a bad situation. He made some good picks after the first round. And landed a great UDFA RB in Crowell.

PHOENIX -- The Cleveland Browns met with NFL Films this week and let it be known they would not volunteer to be featured on "Hard Knocks."
Part of the reason: The team is aware the reality series filmed during training camp would bring increased scrutiny and attention to Johnny Manziel.
"You just weigh everything in," said coach Mike Pettine, who was with the Jets as an assistant coach when the show was filmed there. "Because being a part of 'Hard Knocks,' having been there, knowing they're going to look to cover the team's biggest current storylines, it's obvious that he would be a point of attention."

wait, are the Browns actually doing something smart?

I thought the NFL could force teams now? Browns don't have a new HC for once, they didn't make the playoffs and have no previous appearance on Hard Knocks.

Thought it was by random selection within those rules, not by NFL forcing it. In that scenario I'd believe Bucs Titans Jags and Skins are all up for the running too. Jags and Titans would disappoint. Skins would be too undertalented for people lol. Maybe we'll get lucky and have famous jameis on hard knocks.

The NFL can force teams onto the show but they prefer volunteers

Per Rotoworld.com:

ESPN's Tania Ganguli and the Houston Chronicle's John McClain report the Texans are the favorites to appear on this year's HBO Hard Knocks.
A report surfaced early Friday that the Texans, Redskins, and Bills were in the mix. Buffalo's new coaching staff reduces its chances of appearing on Hard Knocks, while ESPN's John Keim reported Friday afternoon that the Redskins are not in consideration. That leaves the Texans, who will hold a camp battle at quarterback between Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer. Other potential storylines include Jadeveon Clowney's health, J.J. Watt, Arian Foster, polarizing rookie WR Jaelen Strong, and DeAndre Hopkins' post-Andre Johnson ascension. May 22 - 12:40 PM

The Texans will appear on this summer's season of HBO's Hard Knocks.

As expected. The Texans don't jump off the screen as a team many would have near the top of the list of candidates for the show, but deep down there are plenty of intriguing storylines. Coach Bill O'Brien is fiery much like Rex Ryan and could pop off at any minute on the show, while the Texans will also be holding a full-blown quarterback competition to track this summer. J.J. Watt will certainly have plenty of air time as the league's premier defensive player. Arian Foster and DeAndre Hopkins should have starring roles as premier playmakers.

I hate it, because I really don't want there to be a distraction for the team during training camp, but on the other hand the fan in me is excited to see the Texans under the spotlight.

Seeing the likes of Clowney and JJ Watts on hard knocks actually excites me. I will have to find a way to watch this.

Slightly better than the Falcons for entertainment purposes, best characters gotta be Louis Nix, Ryan Mallett, Vince Wilfork, and Ben Jones.

Last time I watched Hard Knocks the Bengals were on it. Was kinda fucked up seeing the way they cut some guys. Basically "Get your shit and get out, also gonna need that playbook right now"
