Maverick 791 Posted April 14, 2015 Ike Taylor officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday, putting an end to a productive 12-year career -- all in Pittsburgh Steelers black and gold. The 34-year-old cornerback was with the team for two Super Bowl wins and three conference championships "Other than having my son, playing for theSteelers has been the best experience in my entire lifetime," Taylor said in a statement released by the Steelers. "It is rare, in this day of free agency that is super rare to play for one team. For me to have this opportunity says a lot about how they felt about me, what I gave back to the organization. I wasn't cut, I wasn't released. It was just my contract was up and it was time to retire. If you want to have pride, well that is the kind of pride I have, being able to play my contract out." Taylor follows fellow longtime teammate Troy Polamalu off the field in what has been an offseason of change for Mike Tomlin and the typically-quiet Steelers organization. Great shutdown corner in his time.

seanbrock 1,684 Posted April 14, 2015 Ike Taylor in his prime was a top 5 maybe even top 3 CB. If he caught just like 25% of the picks he dropped he might have been higher and honestly might have been considered for the Hall of Fame. On a defense with so much talent though it's easy to fly under the radar as Taylor did.
Zack_of_Steel+ 3,014 Posted April 15, 2015 Sad to see him hang 'em up. Always loved his cockiness, his love for the Steelers and LeBeau, and watching him turn #1s into non-factors. Like Sean said, he might've been looked at for the HoF had he had ANY semblance of hands, lol. At least he caught the pick that mattered in Super Bowl XL. I hope he ends up back with the team in some capacity down the line.
BwareDWare94 723 Posted April 17, 2015 There are more and more players retiring from the initial generation we all came in watching. It makes me feel old.
theMileHighGuy 656 Posted April 17, 2015 I will remember Ike fondly. Getting utterly dominated everytime he lined up across from Demaryius Thomas Also all the people he punched. In srs though, another long-time Steelers staple gone. I reiterate BWare's sentiments, though I'm a couple years older than most of you guys. Most of the guys I grew up watching have left the gridiron.
