More proof that NFL is king

Recommended Posts

Tuesday night saw some great things for DC Sports, the Caps won game 4 over the Islanders in overtime to tie their playoff series at 2-2, the Wizards won game 2 over the Raptors to take a 2-0 series lead headed back to DC for games 3 and 4, and the Nats beat the Cardinals on a tenth inning walk off homerun, oh yeah, and the NFL schedule was released. Now take a guess as to what sports articles were viewed most on the Washington Post website. If you don't care about guessing, here you go:

There could certainly be different explanations for this, but the fact remains that on a night when three DC teams won games, two in the playoffs, an article about the Redskins' schedule got the most traffic on the local paper's sports section.

Yeah it's pretty obvious no sport is dethroning the NFL anytime soon. The other sports don't even come close.

The NFL draft is also kinda more proof of how much the NFL is king here. Only reason why they have it across like three days is cause so many people would rather watch that then playoff games, etc.

Which is a little funny because the average fan knows even less about these prospects then, say, fans on TGP, but will still watch it. Although most of those guys don't amount to anything year one.

It's because there's only 16 games. If other sports had a 16-game season, you'd be all over the schedule release. An 82- or 162- game schedule? Just tell me opening day and we'll go from there.

Obviously people love football, but the schedule is probably the biggest peripheral element in the NFL's popularity. It's why the game dominates Sundays and why the schedule release gets so much attention.

I understand that SteVo, but the schedule release getting more clicks than coverage of playoff games?

An elimination game is far better than a best of 7 for audience.

Soccer is the most popular in the world = 11 players for each team.

NFL is the most popular in America = 11 players for each team.

11 = Blaine Gabbert.

Blaine Gabbert = Massively over hyped.

Massively over hyped = Soccer and the NFL.

Al the Pels could get out of a major possession was a 40 foot three pointer? Are you serious, New Orleans?
