Andrew Quarless arrested for firing gun

Another Packers player may not be available as of Week One.

With Datone Jones suspended and Letroy Guion likely the next to be disciplined, Green Bay tight end Andrew Quarless has joined the march to the sidelines after reportedly being arrested in Miami on Saturday morning.

According to the Miami New Times, Quarless was involved in a fight at South Beach, which allegedly prompted him to fire a gun twice into the ground. He tried to flee, but Quarless was apprehended by a pair of police officers.

A spokesman for the Miami Police Department confirmed the arrest and its detail to the New Times. An incident report is expected to be released later today.

Under the new Personal Conduct Policy, Quarless could be headed for paid leave pending the resolution of these charges and the imposition of league discipline.

Thereafter, he’d potentially serve an unpaid suspension.

More details have emerged regarding the Miami misadventures of Packers tight end Andrew Quarless. And they don’t make the situation any better for Quarless.

According to the Miami New Times, the police report claims Quarless fired two shots — one into the air — from a semiautomatic .45 caliber handgun during an argument with a group of women.

The argument happened as Quarless and another man were leaving a parking garage in a Porsche Panamera (product placement!). The men approached another car containing several women. An attendant at the parking garage heard one of the women yell, “No, get away, leave me alone!”

According to the police report, Quarless produced the gun and fired two shots, one straight into the sky. One of the women later told police that Quarless fired the shots “in an attempt to emphasize his dominance and manhood.”

The parking attendant called police. According to the police report, Quarless left the Porsche and tried to hide the gun in a potted plant. Police found the gun and matched the shells found at the garage with the gun.

Quarless is charged only with a misdemeanor, but that won’t matter to 345 Park Avenue. Firing a weapon twice in public — including the firing of a round into the air — during a dispute with a group of women Quarless didn’t know will undoubtedly provoke harsh consequences in the post-Ray Rice NFL.

It also could provoke the Packers to consider dumping Quarless and his $1.3 million salary, unless they’re willing to pay him to not play, because Quarless is likely headed for paid leave pending the resolution of his case.

He should have been cut years ago. Constant under achiever and every year people were expecting him to "take the next step". Never happened. Him being on the roster would have meant somebody else would have lost an opportunity, which would have been a shame. It's unfortunate that this happened, but maybe it happened for the better.

I hope the Packers make the right decision and let him go. Good luck top him wherever he catches on next, whether it be in the NFL or elsewhere.

Wasn't he like a 5th round draft pick? He's not that bad. Idk what kind of expectations you had but mine were backup TE lol. And he was a pretty decent backup TE under Finley and makes a good duo with Ridchard Rodgers.

Also, cutting him? We didn't cut Letroy Guion (yet). I figure Quarless won't be cut until the investigation takes a turn where we know he will be not allowed to play for an extended amount of time.

I don't want Guion on the team either.

He was always meant to be more than simply a backup TE. People thought he made Finley expendable (Finley was expendable, but not because of Q). He never grabbed the mantle. Richard Rodgers is drafted and takes half of Q's snaps -- as a rookie. He's an under achiever, always has been. He could have been so much better than what he has shown on the field. Is he an OK backup? Sure, I suppose... I'd rather not have him on the team though.

With the drafting of Kennard Backman, why keep him around? I see no point to it.

With Packers tight end Andrew Quarless likely headed for leave with pay, the Packers apparently don’t intend to ask him to leave without pay.
Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, citing two unnamed sources, reports that the Packers have no plans to release Quarless after a July 4 arrest including allegations that he fired a gun twice during a dispute with a car full of females.
Per Demovsky, the gun was legally registered to Quarless. This doesn’t change the fact that Quarless used the gun in an illegal way, allegedly or actually.
The Packers have issued the perfunctory no-comment comment about Quarless, and the NFL has said nothing about the situation.
It’s unclear when Packers G.M. Ted Thompson will say something about the situation, or whether a member of the Green Bay media will appropriately ask him what happens if Quarless fires his gun into the air in Wisconsin and kills someone?

Ted hates giving up on players so much that it might actually be a disadvantage.

Andrew Quarless missed the beginning of Packers camp because his daughter died on delivery.

"Probably the saddest day of my life," Quarless said of the July 29 tragedy. This confirms the tight end's absence was not due to his July 4 gun arrest. Quarless remains in the Packers' good graces and the favorite for in-line tight end duties this year.

Wow... I can only imagine what he's going through. That has to be one of the most devastating things a person can experience. He's certainly having a pretty damn rough month to say the least.
