Razor's Runner Rankings 2015

Oh hey, you remember this one, I grade out running backs by how efficiently they carry the football, and also how often they get it. The formula has not changed from recent years, it's still a modified YPC formula. (Yards + 6*TDs - 5*fumbles)/carries. Then that number is subtracted by 2, and multiplied by carries again. This has the benefit of giving a nice round number, and balancing the numbers such that a 30 carry performace for 60 yards is worth a grade of zero instead of just being a 30. There is a real tangible benefit for grading this way, as it turns out, the average for a player ends up being about 2.3 Grade per carry, which I'm sure teachers love for their GPA's and such.

 

Anyway, enough talk, have some rankings. Also included in the googledoc is each player's grade per game, because that wasn't hard to add. All players included have at least six carries per week, because that averages out to about 100 carries a season.

Man, what a year Freeman is having. Sucks that he didn't get the starting job right away but at least he showed patience and maturity to not bitch about it. Got his time and he's looking awfully impressive.

These runningback lists look so bizarre this year. Jamaal Charles is hurt, AD isn't the demon he used to be, Chris Johnson is making an appearance in the top 10? This is the weirdest.

Week 7 is in the books. And while there are only 8 teams remaining with two or less losses, there is still hope for a lot of runningbacks when it comes to the rushing crown. Freeman still holds the top spot after another 100 yard performance, but players like Todd Gurley and Lamar Miller are surging, while guys like Chris Johnson and Doug Martin are keeping pace. This may be the closest race we've had since I've been keeping track of this.

Week 8 is complete. Can you believe we're almost halfway through the season? It feels like it just started. For Runningbacks, how can I not talk about Todd Gurley who seems to be getting one huge run each and every game he's played in. He's had 4 straight games of at least 99 Grade, and he looks to be gunning for the top spot this year. With all the injuries going around, his competition just got a bit easier.

Ugh, I am so bad at keeping this updated. We're two weeks ahead, and Adrian Peterson has actually relinquished the top spot to Dougie Martin. Gurley had enough bad games to keep him off the pace and Thomas Rawls just had his ankle snapped, so he'll be leaving the top five in short order.
