Are the Packers Concerned With Lacy's Weight?

Recommended Posts

"I’m not going to get into guy’s weights," McCarthy said Wednesday. "I mean, I’ve never been asked a question about a guy’s weight. But I think players do get bigger in their career. But he’s bigger than he was as a rookie."

Eddie Lacy is heavier than he was as a rookie, when theGreen Bay Packers running back’s weight first became a regular topic, and coach Mike McCarthy doesn’t sound overly thrilled about it.

McCarthy claims that Eddie's bad ankle hasn't hurt his production at all either, so it makes you wonder why the Packers are giving James Starks more touches and snaps on a consistent basis.

McCarthy saying he's not concerned with a guys weight is total BS. Football coaches are obsessed with the weight of their players, it's a huge point of contention between football coaches and strength coaches.

Lacy is just another fat boy from 'Bama, it'll catch up to him

It's his ankle and anybody who says otherwise is bullshitting. He had a good week one, then got hurt week 2 and hasn't been the same since. He may have put on weight, but that isn't the main problem. You can see that he can't even make proper cuts anymore.

Edgar Bennet (our offensive coordinator) said after last week's game that Lacy's ankle is still causing him problems. That's why Starks has been getting lot more carries, and started last week's game.

At his end-of-the-season presser on Monday, coach Mike McCarthy called out Eddie Lacy for being too heavy.

"He's got a lot of work to do," McCarthy said. "His offseason last year was not good enough and he never recovered from it. He cannot play at the weight he played at this year." Lacy was noticeably portly all throughout the season and had his worst season to date. He's listed at 234 pounds on the Packers' official website, but there were whispers he was in the 260s and beyond in 2015. Now heading into a contract year, Lacy needs to get on a weight-loss regimen.

If he's producing and is adjusting his running style according to his weight..there shouldn't be a problem.

In fact.

Behind that dogshit Packers line, a bigger back is the only kind of back that'll survive and actually produce.

A defensive lineman was running faster than him on his big run on Saturday night. The play before he fell on his ass without being touched. His longest run on the season before that 61yd run was 29yds. Not to mention the ankle issues which could be a result of extra weight. He needs to slim down and show up ready next season or he is probably out.

Packers fired RBs coach Sam Gash.

Green Bay also axed tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot. The Packers unraveled in the second half of the year and the team's underwhelming ground game deserves at least some of the blame. Gash, a Pro Bowl fullback for the Bills in the late 90s, spent two seasons in Green Bay. Fontenot had been with the Packers since 2006.

Heard there could be more firings coming.

And McCarthy was a lot more candid.. Talked about how much Jordy's absence changed the offense. How Eddie Lacy needs to stop being fat... How Jeff Janis struggled to learn the playbook... How Clay Matthews will be moving back to OLB.... etc etc.

Sam Gash may be a good runningback name but it is not a good coach name. :yep:

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel believes it's "a good bet" Eddie Lacy played "at least" 25 pounds heavier than his playing weight of 234.

In other words, beat writer Rob Reischel thinks Lacy was near 260. Lacy's weigh-in at Alabama's 2013 Pro Day was 5-foot-11, 231. We've gone back to check Lacy's college tape as a comparison tool, and he looks considerably more fit and slender in Crimson Tide than Lacy appeared to be this past year. Wrote Reischel, "In fact, from the waist down, you couldn't tell the difference between Lacy and 301-pound center Corey Linsley."

300lb RB :ooo:

Per Rotoworld.com:

Eddie Lacy has "(begun) a program " with P90X founder Tony Horton

The workouts will continue "well into the offseason." Coach Mike McCarthy confirmed the news, while also disputing reports that Lacy was as much as 30 pounds overweight last season. McCarthy is confident Lacy will "learn from this." Going on 26, Lacy will be a prime bounce-back candidate in 2016. Feb 25 - 6:34 PM
