oochymp 2,393 Posted January 25, 2016 Russ Grimm Among Assistants Added to Coaching Staff NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Titans are turning their offensive line over to one of the “Hogs.” Hall of Famer Russ Grimm has been hired by the Titans as the team’s new offensive line coach. Grimm has 21 seasons of coaching experience in the NFL, with the Redskins, Steelers and Cardinals. The Titans have also hired Deshea Townsend as secondary coach and Steve Jackson as assistant secondary coach. I'm still not a fan of the half-assed head coach search, but I do like the coaching staff we're putting together
oochymp 2,393 Posted January 27, 2016 Titans Hire Bob Bratkowski as WRs Coach "I just like that I have another coordinator in that offensive room because I like ideas, I like as many ideas that can flow from the staff," Mularkey said on Tuesday. "That had a lot to do with it. But I've also watched him coach Hines Ward (in Pittsburgh) and ... Chad Johnson (in Cincinnati). He's been very productive with these guys. He's a very good teacher." the article also mentions a bunch of assistants who are being retained, so I think that fills out our coaching staff and I think I'm okay with it, still wish we'd done a real HC search, but I'm not really that mad about the way it turned out
56AceInDaPlace 110 Posted January 28, 2016 Did u look at Arizona sacks given up stat for the last 4 years? I'm not sure how I feel on the Russ Grim hiring..
Vin+ 3,121 Posted January 28, 2016 Profootballtalk reports the Titans' ownership issues are the result of the fact that late owner Bud Adams "did not establish a clear succession plan." The team is now divvied up between three separate branches of Adams' family, and lacks a majority owner. The family is attempting to make Adams' daughter Amy Strunk the controlling stake, but that would require buying out the other two groups. It's unclear if Strunk has those sort of funds. If not, the league could eventually force the sale of the team. Source: Profootballtalk on NBCSports.com

oochymp 2,393 Posted January 28, 2016 Did u look at Arizona sacks given up stat for the last 4 years? I'm not sure how I feel on the Russ Grim hiring.. Grimm was in Arizona from 2007 through 2012, here are Arizona's sack totals (and league rank) for those years: 2007: 24 (8T) 2008: 28 (11) 2009: 26 (6T) 2010: 50 (30T) 2011: 54 (31) 2012: 58 (32) So they had three great years to start his tenure then quickly went south. Oddly enough that corresponds to Kurt Warner's retirement and the Cardinals revolving door of shitty QBs prior to signing Palmer in 2013 (conveniently right after Grimm was fired along with most of the coaching staff when Whisenhunt was canned) Going from a savvy veteran like Warner to guys like John Skelton, Derek Anderson, Kevin Kolb, and Ryan Lindley doesn't help sack numbers.

oochymp 2,393 Posted February 1, 2016 So this was a pretty good, interesting read from one of the GM candidates that interviewed with the Titans. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2610257-i-interviewed-to-rebuild-the-titans-and-heres-what-i-would-have-done It's pretty long so... I didn't get all the way through it (as you said, it's long) but I don't know how much stock I'd put into a guy's commentary right after being passed over for a job, a lot of thoughts go through your mind after that and not all of them are constructive. I do think after making so much of that process public that will probably be his last interview for a GM position.
BucD+ 648 Posted February 1, 2016 Yeah. I thought it was interesting, not really because of the candidate themselves or the team he interviewed with, but rather an inside look of the process directly from a GM candidate and what goes through said candidates head. I don't think that has really ever been done before for obvious reasons, but yeah,I don't know if he's going to be chosen to interview for another GM gig anytime soon. Hopefully he'll get another chance somewhere down the line, though.
Vin+ 3,121 Posted February 6, 2016 Titans president and CEO Steve Underwood said the organization is making progress towards satisfying the league's ownership requirements. "We are confident that the next time we meet with the Commissioner," Underwood said, "he will be satisfied that [owner] Amy Adams Strunk has exactly what he said she needs — local operating control and full authority to represent the Titans in league decisions." The league requires one majority owner to represent the team both locally and in league matters. Strunk owns just a third of the organization with the rest of the shares spread out between the late Bud Adams' other daughter, Susie Adams Smith, and the heirs of his late son, Kenneth Adams III. Strunk has been operating as the controlling owner, but the league likely wants her to acquire a majority stake. Underwood's comments suggest she is close to acquiring the necessary shares. Vin+ 3,121 Posted February 19, 2016 Titans coach Mike Mularkey says he wants his system to be "exotic smashmouth." This is one of those times where it's unfortunate "K" or "lol" isn't acceptable analysis. "Exotic smashmouth" couldn't be an emptier phrase, but what's clear is that Mularkey wants Marcus Mariota to run more. That would be a boon for the sophomore's fantasy value, but also expose him to injury. Mariota tweaked both knees as a rookie. Injury risk aside, Mularkey is correct to want Mariota to use his legs. His full potential is as a dual threat. Source: John Glennon on Twitter
CampinWithaMissingPerson 2,025 Posted February 19, 2016 Still love these Mularkey quotes from back in 2012 "Some guys are very good at managing the game and calling plays. I'm not one of them," Mularkey said. "Any one mistake can be the difference in the game. I don't want to be that guy that thinks he can do it all. If I can't do it, I'm not going to do it. Hopefully I'll put it in the right hands. That's what my job is, to get that guy in here, get the right guy in here to do it." It's unbelievable that we're going to have a chance to interview for this position because we did the right thing. It's unbelievable that I got a chance again."
