Antonio Cromartie Mentoring Jets Rookies
02 June 2013 - 02:19 PM
Quote
New York Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie might always be the punch line of a joke, but what he will not be in the future is broke.
In a fantastic look at how the man who blew through $5 million in his first two seasons with the San Diego Chargers and is famous for having 10 children with eight different women, Cromartie explained to Bob Glauber of Newsday how he went from spending fast and furious to being frugal.
"Right now, I try to put away as much money as I possibly can and live on a budget," Cromartie said. "I learned the hard way."
That hard way was spending money non-stop, buying gifts for friends and giving away cash -- "lots of cash" as Glauber writes -- to friends and family members who would ask. There was also the nine-vehicle car collection, which included two Dodge Chargers, a '65 Caprice, two BMWs and two Escalades.
Now, after getting much-needed counseling from financial adviser Jonathan Schwartz, Cromartie is on a budget. His main car? A Toyota Prius.
The now fiscally responsible cornerback is trying to council younger NFL players.
"I want to help others learn from what I did wrong," Cromartie said, who has taken on a greater leadership role in the locker room, after the Darrell Revis trade.

With all the bad press for the Jets it's nice to see a story like this once in a while. Cromartie has quickly moved from becoming a player I wasn't too fond of to one of my favorite players on the Jets roster.
It's always good to see a guy learn from his past mistakes and use it to help those around him. -
Mark Sanchez - "They drafted a quarterback. Let's compete."
02 May 2013 - 01:28 PM
Quote
From the haze of an eternal quarterback drama in Florham Park, Mark Sanchez emerged Thursday to address the New York media.
Less than a week after the New York Jets plucked quarterback Geno Smith in the 2013 NFL Draft, Sanchez told NFL Network's Kimberly Jones he's "thrilled" to battle for the starting role under center.
"They drafted a quarterback," Sanchez said. "Let's compete."
Wearing a highly suspicious, green-tinged headband, Sanchez (who called the fashion choice a nod to "his inner soccer player") expressed little doubt about his future with the Jets.
Asked if he'd open the season as the team's starting passer, the four-year veteran announced, "Sure, no doubt. Of course ... you gotta own it, and compete your butt off to keep it."
Sanchez has spent the offseason working with former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia in an effort to hit training camp fully prepped for offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg's West Coast attack. It's a scheme that arguably suits Sanchez's skill set as he enters what Jets general manager John Idzik has labeled as an "open competition" with Smith, David Garrard and Greg McElroy.
Sanchez is guaranteed $8.5 million this season, the result of one of the biggest head-scratching contract extensions of all time. But everything the Jets are doing -- cutting ties with Tim Tebow, drafting new competition -- suggests Idzik is ready to reorganize at quarterback. Still, Sanchez -- similar to an ex-girlfriend hanging around the apartment -- remains like a bad dream.
Sanchez's message to exhausted Jets fans who wander the abyss? "Hang in there and stay loyal."
That's become a tall order in New York, but Jets center Nick Mangold told Newsday's Bob Glauber on Thursday he sees something different in Sanchez this offseason; more maturity than in years past.
Going through the fire will do that to a man.

As much as I wish Sanchez would just go away forever I guess I respect the fact he's not throwing in the towel and at least trying to put work in to be a better player. -
Best Way To Start A New Job
22 April 2013 - 02:38 PM
Quote
This Sunday was AJ Clemente’s first day on the job as co-anchor at an NBC affiliate in Bismacrk, North Dakota. It was also his last. Apparently Clemente didn’t know his microphone was live (duh) when the show started its open. Sadly, of all the things he said that night, those two words were the only ones that were remotely intelligible.
After a strange show open that sounded like it was read by someone who walked by the audio tracking booth, Clemente could be heard muttering “f—king sh-t”. Then, the co-anchor, clearly rattled, (probably someone from the control room was shouting in their ears) tried to introduce Clemente as the newest member of the Channel 5 team. Then, AJ stumbles through introducing himself. Clearly he just saw his journalistic life flash before his eyes, and it was remarkably brief.

Dolphins Sign Former Jets Tight End Dustin Keller

@AdamSchefter
Former Jets TE Dustin Keller reached agreement on a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins.
Interesting that he only signed a one year deal but this could be a good pickup for Miami. Will miss him on the Jets.
